Is nowhere safe?

When I read this, I couldn't really believe it, so I had to post. Two bicyclist killed on a bike path that is a good 25 yards away from the freeway, separated by an embankment and chainlink fence. The accident occurred around 6:30 pm -- I was riding in this very spot two hours earlier.

sounds like a freak accident. I will be curious to see what caused her to veer over there.

Pretty unusual accident. SR56 bikepath is an excellent bikepath and keeps a reasonable distance from the freeway the majority of the time.

To answer your question, no place is totally safe....fact of life.

Cellular records should be obtained for all vehicle accidents causing injury or death.
I'll bet some text messaging was involved.

65 million years ago somewhere near present day Cancun.

Triceratops: "What was that?"

Tyrannosaurus:"I'm not sure, but when your time's up your time's up. Run."

I've ridden that path. You'd think being that far away and separated by a fence that you'd be relatively safe. Guess not.

I still remember when I first moved to Carmel Valley that that road was 1-lane and gravel. Now look at it!

Tell me about it. I grew up in Poway and that was barely a dirt road back in the day. Those fancy new subdivisions used to be migrant labor camps. . .

and elevated right? I couldn't believe this either as I live about 3 miles from there and ride the path frequently...

and yes, it was freak accident but still sucks big time and makes you think... I gotta wonder if the driver was texting or otherwise distracted when "changing lanes"...

Though I don't know whether this was the case it looks like the chainlink fence wouldn't be much of protection if a vehicle crashed into it (especially at highway speed)... rather there might be no way of escaping if you are in the vicinity as it would catch you like a fishing net.

A 5-year-old girl was killed in Raleigh, NC, a few days ago while she was playing on the front porch of her house. A woman driving the down the street lost control of her car, veered across several yards and plowed into the house, killing the little girl. Really sad. I would not be surprised if texting was involved.

Yikes. I have thought about being knocked over and robbed, but a taser would mess up my day.

Do you think Brooks could make a nice leather holser?

Honestly, not sure if I would try to evade an attacker or steer right towards them and become a bombadier. I certainly don't want to find out.
