Cyclocrossr Tire

With the UCI rule change limiting the size of tires to 33mm. Does this mean I can't have my son ride a MTB for the race anymore? Or does this rule only apply to highest level of racers?

Is there a 1.25 inch or narrower 26" tires that has good tread for cross? Thanks.

He won't have to worry about UCI, but check with the race organizer so there are no surprises.

From USACycling:

Quote:
This rule does not affect local events as we currently have no rules regarding tire width and the Board of Trustees is not adding any tire width requirement. However, the tire width rule will apply at National Championships for all riders 17 and over.

Thanks. I am glad that I don't have to get a cross specific bike for him just yet. If he does quite well and wants to be competitive, then it's a different story.

Do you mean we just talked you out of buying a bike?

I'm sorry.

Nah. You talked hime into buying a bike. And then another later on. And another. You made it easier for the kid to try cross racing. No new bike needed to give it a whirl -- no big up-front expense and he can jump right in on a bike on which he's already comfortable. He'll like it. He'll want to do more. He'll see the advantages of ditching the mtb for a proper cross bike, and the search will begin. Think of this as a gateway thread.
