DA 7800 status

Will Shimano continue to manufacture Dura Ace 7800 components (chains, cogs, etc.) now that 7900 is out? It seems like there has never been a problem getting the "wear" items from old groups.

I'm thinkin' you'll slowly see all 7800 stuff dry up, with maybe some NOS stuff hangin' around some dealer's shelves/E-Bay, etc. Probably take a little while though. Jeff N.

you can still get 7700 stuff pretty easily...just sayin'.....

Well although I thought most of the 7700 was alright, the bottom bracket was terrible.

The octalink was a flawed design that wore out quicker than expected and there's no way to add phil wood bearings to it to make it last longer.

i was pretty satisfied with the 7700 octalink bb although some folks said the seals only kept out sunlight.i rode a few times with it in some pretty heavy rain and never had any issues.
i have been quite happy with 7800 and was looking forward to trying the 7900 but after reading assorted negative reports about the shifters in particular and problems with rattling and cable friction i think will wait a while.the test that cyclingnews has up right now has some interesting things to report.anyone aware the replacment outer chainring is 485 bucks.holy crap.di2 is cool but not 4k cool.
i took the plunge and decided to try some Chorus 11 for under a grand.appears to be very nice stuff.

for those using 7700 DA, he ultegra BB's are a lot better than the DA version. I think the DA's use needle bearing (I could be wrong) and wear out a lot faster. back in the day, most pro's were using ultegra as well

yeah,i think that is pretty common knowledge that the Ultegra last as long or longer with no maintanence.the 7700 is lighter and has a little less friction but requires more upkeep..i guess thats why the 6500 is hard to find and the 7700 is not so hard find.not sure about the d/a track version but it is sealed like ultegra.never tried it personally but i assume it will fit 6500/7700 cranks

DA 7700 BBs are adjustable, and require much more care when installing. In the era of "slap-it-on-and-forget-about-it", an anachronism. I like them, though. Very nice when properly adjusted.
The Ultegra is non-adjustable, slap-it-on type.
