Thanks,
Chris

Dude, do a search within this forum. This has been covered many times.

ATMO = According To My Opinion

There are some who are just more "cool" than the rest. The value of your opinion on any internet forum is directly related to how cool you are. So, for those dangerously cool people it became more than just voicing their opinioins like they were worth no more or less than others. They also found that the laws of supply and demand insured that their opinions would always have a place. But at the same time they found themselves spelling out the word opinion far too much. Hot keys were added to keyboards only sold to cool people, but they just wore out. The Fellowship of Unquestionably Cool Kids formed it's own university, adopted ATMO as it's motto, fight song and letterhead, and left this forum for a far cooler place.

Or, if you don't like matryoshka dolls, here's the direct answer:

http://forums.thepaceline.net/showpo...5&postcount=78

In short, it's an acronym invented by e-RICHIE (i.e., Mr. Sachs). He uses it at least once in every post, I think. It's often used with humorous intent, so even a question (where "according to my opinion" doesn't make any sense) can end in "atmo."

When I saw e-RICHIE a few weeks ago at the Mercer Cup, he was wearing one of these:

thanks...I think I much prefer IMHO (in my humble opinion) or YMMV (your miliage may vary) or...just post my statement and assume everyone knows that it's my opinion since I'm posting it.

BTW- if you do a search for ATMO....you'll get all the posts that have ATMO in them. It was much easier and quicker to ask the question and get an answer in 5 minutes...

When I'm asked about it, I explain that my opinion is often cited as a reference source.

I think I remember that Richie said he heard it used by a European bike guy for whom English was not his primary language, thought it sounded cute, and adopted it himself. It beats the heck out of "I was like, ya know, when he went like let's go back to college and get a Master's in English." ATMO

+1 on IMHO and the search observation. I had to ask also because when I did a search I could not get an answer. If you had done an advanced search and limited it to thread titles only you would have found a 03/08 thread with the answer.

I don't know why the forum members thought they needed to reinvent the wheel since IMHO is universal and means exactly the same thing and is more humble imho.

I believe that atmo should always be accompanied by ®.
