For pure electrolyte replacement (as in you get your calories elsewhere), Elete - the miracle prevention for spasms. Don't leave home without it.

And it can be used in a hydration pack.

We're using up the last of our Endurolytes which are pretty good, but not as effective as Elete.

Powerbar Endurance. Accelerade is good, but tastes horrible when warm.

just plain old gatorade....then then only when the ride is over 3 hours.

Otherwise, just water during the ride and a mocha when I get home!

Nuun works well, very light flavour, not sweet, just enough to make
water bottle water taste better.

Elete adds a little salty taste to the water.
Both work well for me, gatorade is just too sweet.

Back in the 70's, I used Gookinaid E.R.G. (Electrolyte Replacement w/Glucose). Makes cramps VANISH. I'm told it's now called Enervit Sport Drink.

http://www.enervitusa.com/hydration.html

Strangely enough, I tried Gatorade, but, even diluted 4:1, if I drink it while riding I get INSTANT diarrhea.

I'll definitely try something other than water for this year's D2R2, Enervit may be it.

I'm a Hammerchild. Heed for short rides, Perpetuem and Endurolytes the for the longer events, now that I'm really paying attention to the reasons I've cramped up before.

Full report after the 12-hour.

NO way I can take the sweetness of Gatorade when really cranking it. It's good for cutting the grass though.
