David Kirk-is that a Caterham/Lotus?

Just saw your avatar pic on the 'Friends thread'. Looks like a Seven to me. I blast around the countryside in a home-built K series Roadsport SV myself.

I'll post a pic at some point

My car is a 1999 Birkin S3. It's powered by a Ford Zetec and the car itself is made in South Africa.

I just finished my fall upgrades installing a high flow side exit exhaust and a lightweight aluminum flywheel and clutch. Too much fun.

How do you like your SV? I was looking for an SV but couldn't find one many and none in my price range. I then found the Birkin which is big enough for me to fit in well (moveable foot box) and yet the wheelbase and track are like the original Lotus S3........small.

I'd like to see a photo of your SV.

Dave

Helmet clearance...

The picture makes it look like the seat is behind the roll cage but the what little I could see from the Avatar looks like your helmet is well in front of it. Any funky clearance issues? I keep looking at the car thinking about tall people in the go karts at F1 Boston...

There were issues with the stock roll bar (my head was above the bar by a good bit). I made this bar to clear my helmet even with the top up and I have no clearance issues at all. It's far enough behind my head and far enough above to cause no issues and it meets all SCCA guidelines.

No it's got plates and it's street legal. When I travel to events I bolt on a homemade tire rack on the back that holds the race slicks. The plate is bolted to that and comes off with it when I race.

I put about 5000 miles a year on it and smile the whole time.
