Best 1x10 or 1x12 Campy gearing

Just picked up a Moots Psychlo X Titanium Cyclocross bike, will be building it as a 1x with Campy Record.

It's a canti version (gasp!)

(It's got a top pull cable setup, which I've never found to work well with Campy...but I'm willing to try a pulley system, again...I guess...)

What's the best setup for 1x Campy gearing...for trail use?

No ultra low gearing necessary...I do have a Litespeed Watia with Ekar for that...

...or maybe this *replaces* the Watia....

Just thinking out loud, would appreciate comments...

Perhaps you could be a bit more clear about your gearing requirements, beyond "don't need ultra low." Like, what do you want for minimum low ratio and max high ratio?

FWIW, I had an IF Planet X set up with a pulley, Campy (Chorus?) FD, and bar-end shifter. It was balky until I put a long piece of cable inner along the pulley and after that it worked very well.

Just a suggestion if you want 2x perhaps try the Shimano CX-70 front derailleur as that is available in a top pull version and probalby works well enough with Campy shifters (I used it with SRAM plenty). No pulley needed that way.

Hmm… I have a canti Psychlo-X w/Record 10 speed (Record FD).
Never had problem w/front shifting.

Good question...this will mostly be a cross-country style gravel rig. No racing, no downhilling, no substantial climbing.

I've got a Chorus 12 crankset with lower gearing (32/48)...might go that way (with a pulley and the 2X front for starters...)

I can't help with the 1x question but if you are wondering what brakes using, I run TRP cx 8.4 with record 10 and Athena 11 shifters on cyclocross bikes and it brakes really well.

How did you set up the front cabling?

Thanks!

Agreed...I have a set on my Blue Ridge and another on the Prestige!

...I'm just slightly tempted to put a mechanical disk on the front, but that would (obviously) require changing the fork and have mismatched wheels.

I do have a gravel bike with disk brakes, so I don't *really* need another disk brake rig.

Of course, years ago I asked "how many 'cross bikes does one person need."

So far the answer is clearly N+1

Just sayin'

That's a top pull Shimano CX-70 FD with Campy 10 spd ergos and an old (da Vinci converted) SRAM X9 to allow running 9 speed with a Shimano wheelset. FSA 46/30 crankset.

I have run it in the past with the pulley successfully but this setup is easier to maintain in mud and such.
