Campagnolo Levante — Quick Release?

Morning Folks,

Anyone know if you can use Quick Release on Levantes? Haven’t been able to confirm but thinking to give them a shot on a TA front and QR rear gravel bike.

Thanks!

I don't think so but I'll check with 'my guy'...

As far as I’ve been told in different forums etc it is not possible

I just tried to convert a fulcrum 5 DB to qr with kit from my Zonda DB (fulcrum parts) -> unfortunately not possible since the axle is different and not interchangeable (to be honest probably due to the bearing types being different so might try again with a fulcrum db 3)

I bought some Levante and Shamal Carbon in the end which I didn’t convert in the rear wheel as I could convert the Lynskey frame - on the front wheel I got some QR „plugs“ from aliexpress to convert from 12 thru axle to QR

But for my Ritchey swiss cross I will still be needing QR wheels so would be great if our friend OP could look into it with his contacts

A client has been using these to convert some thru axle wheels to QR. They seem to work fine and he hasn’t had any issues…

Yeah front is doable

Rear wheel from a 142mm to 130/135mm setup without the proper parts seems less likely

On the website they do offer 142mm QR adapter…(have also seen this on Ali but was skeptical)

🤔 might have to try this on the Swiss cross - steel drop outs might be able to cope with the 7mm difference in width…

Tried it out…in hindsight one’s always wiser…

Of course I can get the 142mm hub into my steel frame dropouts…chain lined up in the cassette…but then the disc brake side of the frame has to take up the 7mm difference and the rotor won’t fit in the brake caliper slot…

So I will be looking into other wheels from now

Not with Campagnolo original parts.
The N3W cassette body doesn't mount to a QR type axle.

There may be third party parts that will let you do it but be aware that this will potentially void any warranty you might otherwise have had

Ok, thanks. Think that means time to move into 21st century and wait for a frame with Thru axle.

EDIT: please note I am referring to Shamal Carbon but should also work for the Levante as I think it is the same cup&cone bearing system
____________
Hi guys,

So after some more tinkering around I have some good news.

Using the axle, parts and freehub from my Zonda disc QR wheels (which I have successfully transplanted to my new Fulcrum Racing 3 Disc) I was able to convert my (Levante) Shamal Carbon rear wheel to QR. The front wheel I already use in a QR fork with simple to find QR adapter plugs. Please note the wheel needs to have the Campa/Fulcrum cup&cone bearing system.

So for a “modest” investment (I just bought another set of the parts needed) you can future proof your old QR frame - which I am extremely happy about with my Ritchey Swiss cross

That's good news!

Up until this year all of my wheels were completely interchangeable across road and 'cross bikes.

All Record 10 QR, rim, tube.

Now I have added Record 12 and Ekar 13 (Levanta thru axle, disc).

Might need to set up a database to track which goes where.

Lessee..the 26 x 4.8" tire with spikes...does that go on the C50? I can't remember...

This is great news. I want to run my Levante wheelset on the Psychlo X disc, and this will allow that. I'm fitting an Enve thru-axle/post mount front fork, so that's all set. The rear will need the adapter. I took a look at the rear dropouts, thinking that the derailleur hanger could be swapped out for one for thru axle, but it doesn't look like the NDS dropout can be easily changed...

I have two other wheelsets that potentially could go on that bike - a HED wheelset and a 650B Reynolds wheelset. I think I'll stick with converting the Levante and keep the other two wheelsets set up as thru axle for the Routt 45.

UPDATE: REAR WHEELS PROBABLY NOT QR COMPATIBLE

Hi guys - so another update from me…

Did another trial run with the parts from Zonda/Fulcrum 3 onto the Shamal Carbon rear wheel and I noticed that the freehub mechanism is smaller than the newer ones for Shamal (and Levante). It clicks in fine into the “grooves” of the hub and the pawls line up and work when you turn the freehub BUT I think that when you install everything and ride it the play will be too great and you will end up destroying hub and freehub.

I think I read somewhere campa increased the circumference of the axle to accommodate the N3W freehub

So I am now assuming one CAN NOT CONVERT shamal and levante (plus all other newer post N3W wheels/hubs) to QR on the rear wheel (!)

Sorry about the confusion as I was really hoping this would work.

So back to the drawing board and looking at DT Swiss for QR setup - any other tips for brands with swappable end caps? Ritchey? FSA/Vision? Miche?

One other option, though harder to track down, are Mavic Infinity Hubs, they have lots of end cap options.

If price isn't an issue, Onyx can do QR, Center Lock with a N3W freehub, you'll just need to send them an email.
