Garmin 1030 now 33% off, is a new model coming?

I am seeing the Garmin 1030 discounted 33% from numerous retailers, down to $399 for the head unit. This is about the price of the Garmin 830. So I have to wonder if a new model is coming out to replace the 1030. Anybody hear anything on the subject?

I haven’t heard anything specific on that but did pick up two Varia 510 rear lights this morning for $99 each. Don’t know if that price is the new normal or what.

Also, the 1030 rocks and I love mine but have wondered what the next generation could bring to the table. Might find out sooner rather than later.

The 830 is a better unit hands down unless you need a big screen. Faster proc, better battery life, some updated features too.

I loved my 1000 and couldn’t think of anything else I needed and then the 1030 came along, my 1000 eventually died in the rain ...I tried a wahoo ...and eventually bought a 1030 which is a crazy good improvement on the 1000. I’m really happy with my 1030 but I’m sure the marketing folks will make the new and improved 1030 x% better so I’ll want it.

I got them through Amazon, the order was fulfilled by HeartRateMonitorsUSA. Just a minute ago I went to the “reorder this item” page and it shows them at $129 each. Still a very good price compared to the usual $180-200.

I accidentally bought two 1030s earlier today, so if someone wants one, $399 plus a bit o' ship and it's yours when it gets to me.....assuming they are sold out most places now..

Wonder if most Garmin stuff is on sale currently? I saw a PSA post somewhere else about Varia (rear unit) being on sale everywhere for $130 (35% off or so).

anyone know how the real-world battery life compares between the 1030 and the 5/830?

i bought a 530 recently and it absolutely blew me away with its battery life...was on pace for 24hrs. (33% left after 16hrs)

was thinking of buying a back-up unit for a long ride i have planned june12-july? and another 530/830 seemed like the obvious choice but now maybe a 1030 would be cool...any intel is appreciated!

Why not just buy a small battery pack and charge it while riding? Unlike the older units (like with the old Edge 500 i used to have) I think they allow charging while using them concurrently (currently use an Edge 520 and last time I check it allows charging while using it). Much cheaper than a 2nd unit. You can get large capacity 10,000mah or higher battery packs for cheaper than a latex tube these days.

I have a 1030 and I don’t see it going for 24 hours. I did a compare earlier today on Garmin’s site and it claims the 530, 830, and 1030 all have battery life up to 20 h which seems plausible. If you are gonna be out 18 h or more I’d probably buy the battery pack. If you are using features like navigation that are battery hogs I’d also probably cart around the extra battery because not having navigation when you need it sucks!

the back up isnt in case i run out of battery (i have a variety of different size battery packs i bring with me as needed), its in case one malfunctions or gets broken somehow.
ill be using these for the tour divide this year, redundancy in navigational equipment is key...

1030 today

I rode for approximately 4 hours today with nav and mapping turned on. I used 10% battery in that time.

I would bet that Garmin is coming out with a 1030 replacement - otherwise why have a big discount on the current flagship model?

I have a 1000 and am thinking of pulling the trigger on a 1030 and then selling my 1000. The 1000 has been great - no complaints about it. But it would be nice to have a longer lasting battery and some of the newer features.

Adding trailforks maps and the longer battery life was all i needed to hear when i bought the 530.
