Short cage front derailleur? Small chainring...

I just installed a 39 26 crankset on the El Mariachi and the front derailleur hits the chain stay. What's a good SHIMSRAM MTB front der that will fit?

That's gonna be a tough one with a big ring that's so small. Which front der shifter? There may be some 'road' fders that are compatible..perhaps the CX type...

is there an alternative to the CX-70? I have that one on two bikes. The GRX FD has different chain line requirements, and I'm not sure it will work with a regular crank

Need more information here. Not sure why people are suggesting road or cross derailleurs. MTB derailleurs come in a thousand variations. What shifters are you using, what derailleur are you using that doesn't work, and what clamp style does your El Mariachi take?

how did I miss that it's an el Maricachi? Yeah, mtb derailleur. Or is it a drop bar conversion? I had trouble using a SRAM mtb fd with SRAM drop bar shifters even though the pull ratio is supposed to be the same. Something about spacing.

Get a SRAM XX, XO, X9, etc. They will be cheap on eBay even brand new. Pay attention as there are top pull, bottom pull, low mount, high mount (either high or low should work), and two different cage versions depending on max chainring size.

This is exactly it. I'm running a 10sp SRAM drive train, but the bike came with larger triple cranks (44) and I swapped down to a 39/26 double and the original XT derailleur now hits the chain stay before I can get it low enough to prevent shipping the chain.
I've perused the 10/11 speed offerings from both Sram and Shimano and, indeed, there are a 1000 variations. The one that's on there is a mid/low clamp-on with a bottom pull. Probably a 28.6 tube but the clamp has a rubber spacer.
I know NOTHING about mountain bikes. I ride road Campy....

I'll bet a 6700 front der is compatible because 6700 fronts are compatible with 10s road sram shifters, which are compatible with 10s sram MTB ders..

Why are we talking about road derailleurs? This is a mountain bike.

I pulled up the parts list for the 2016 El Mariachi, for example. It has a 39t big ring and "SRAM X7 High Direct Mount" front derailleur. Also checked against 2013 and it was similar.

Spec sheet says "Front derailleur mount: High direct -mount (26mm offset) via Ø31.8mm clamp Problem Solvers Bracket (FS1323)"

I'd start there.
