Back in the saddle

My big bad crash was on 28 May 2017. The shoulder, ribs and scapula are all healed now and I've been riding again for about two weeks . I am finally back in So Cal, and picked-up my crashed. I got a look at it a few weeks ago and knew it was in OK shape. The only real damage, if you could call it that, was trashed tape. The rear wheel needs a little truing too, but that can wait. Fresh tape is on, and the bike seems ok. If you look closely you can see the hospital bracelet the ER staff put on the bike. I'm set to go for a spin tomorrow morning on the same route that did me in. Wish me luck!

Given all those those hits to the bars and "brifters" be sure to give the handlebars a good once-over. You don't want to crash again in a few weeks due to a failure there.

Scapula? Is that May 2017 correct? Alloy bars can take a hit but how bout the fork/steerer?

1) Yes scapula. Broke that sucker clean through. That's why they had to do the titanium on my clavicle to stabilize my shoulder.

2) Carbon is not as fragile as people seem to think. Yes I inspected the forks, steerer and bars. All appear fine, although the bars are a little lighter with a little carbon scrubbed off below the rear shifter. Still haven't figured that out since I went down on my left shoulder.

3) The ride was great. A buddy went with me and we stopped and took pics of the pothole that done me wrong. It's bigger than I had thought, so I feel better about it biting me.

unfortunately with shrinking maintenance budgets, crappier composition asphalt, record traffic, and vicious freeze-thaw cycles here in the northeast area, potholes, frost heaves and expansion cracks are a reality that is a real danger at times.
