20 lb fendered steel Weigle randonneur bicycle

A somewhat different, interesting take on weight weenie-ism.

Brian built a leightweight last year, no drillium though, 19lb with fenders and racks.

Wow, I've been dreaming about a very similar build. I had pictured white industries cranks but the rest is darn near spot on.

I'm not a big fan of steel but that is one heck of a nicely thought out and executed bike. Not sure what this bike cost but, if it was competitively priced the waiting list would probably be 10 years. Highly desirable.

Ok, but I'll bet the rule is inverse proportional for facial hair, so probably a wash, overall.

That's amazing considering it's all metal, no carbon, and all the accessories. Nice to see that the drilleum is holding up under serious riding. I think my favorite might be the drilled crown race. Haven't seen that one before.

I've been following the whole comp. It's rad. This bike and the Chapman are very well thought out

That is a mighty tall head tube! Are those 650b wheels?

well, Peter's wait list is not 10 years but is very very long and it is not cheap... but you definitely get what you pay for.

Second place went to J. P. Weigle’s randonneur bike. At 9.7 kg (21.4 lb) fully equipped –including the handlebar bag, spare tubes and tools – it also received the prize for the lightest bike. (The bike alone weighs just 9.1 kg / 20.0 lb.)

I am proud to have been involved in this machine, both as a supplier of components and as the rider. The bike gained points for its light weight and many custom features. It completed the challenging course without any problems – I didn’t carry any tools except spare tubes, since everything counted in the weight. The Weigle also was among the first finishers each day, so it avoided penalties on both counts. What it lacked compared to the winner was “innovation” – most of its features, whether the ability to be disassembled for Rinko, the SON SL generator hub without wires, or the switch on the stem that operated the headlight, had been seen before.

That is an awesome bike. Way rad. Love the balance of lightweight to function and longevity.

not the Concours bike, but I was riding in Peter's neighborhood on Sunday and he saw us and caught up and rode with us for a while. He was on his personal bike, also light blue. It was the most beautiful bicycle I have ever seen in my life. I was really just completely blown away by it. I am very much coveting a Weigle now.
