Confused about Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon wheelsets out there
Competitive Cyclist and other retailers have Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon wheels on sale - they're listed as 52mm deep and with 13mm inside rim width.
Yet when I look at Mavic's website, they list these wheels as being 45mm deep and with 17mm inside rim width. Are these different wheels? Is any retailer (besides Mavic online) selling the wider, shallower wheelset? Thanks for any info to clear up my confusion. |

Tom, Mavic updated the profile this year to bring it in line with the latest aero technology. It is also wider too. The 52's have been extinguished.

Thanks, 'Eddy.' Funny, I haven't seen the new version in any retail outlets. They're still selling the old model.

As Mr. Merckx points out, what you are seeing is retailers clearing out old stock.
These same retailers are carrying the new stock (mostly) but it is not as prolific as Mavic's presence has been in the past on these sites. I can confirm that their new stuff is very nice. The new freewheel design is louder but very robust - it is basically the DT star ratchet. |

Gotta get rid of the 'old, stale, low performing' inventory before they can sell the 'new, improved, makes you walk on water and talk to birds', wheels..at a loss, no doubt. Bike retail sux.

Yeah, OP, you are probably right. I rarely buy anything new, with this forum classified, VSalon, and eBay to peruse.
I think you could broaden that statement to include all brick and mortar retail these days. Only folks making money are UPS, FedEx, and the overseas shippers, I'd guess. |
