Has anyone ever "re-finished" gum sidewalls?

My race tubulars are Dugast Typhoons, which have a gum colored sidewall. They take in water apparently so the norm is to paint the sidewalls with aqua seal. It was my first time with these tires and I don't think I did a very good job with the sealant. Now a year later they look like . There is dirt in there, they're peeling near the rim, etc.

Is it possible to strip the aqua seal and re-do the work? Or am I SOL until I need a new set of tires?

They look like this image I found, but worse:

I used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on my Bruce Gordons last night. Worked surprisingly well to clean off rain stains.

I don't know if whitewall tire cleaner would work, but I've used Spray N Wash and similar bleach based cleaners with good results. Perhaps reach out to the distributor of manufacturer for suggestions.
