Rim tape for DT Swiss RR 440 Rims

For DT Swiss RR 440 Rims owners, what are you using for rim tape?

DT Swiss' tech docs (link below) say 21mm, but since I'm currently using a 22mm wide velox tape that I had to cut down the width to make it fit ... I don't think their guidance is right. Cutting down the velox tape didn't work as well as I thought, uneven edges, and I'm looking for something better. I've got the regular 440 on the front and the asymmetric on the rear.

I agree that a sticky one is best, Velox makes a 19mm Velox.

I agree a sticky one is best. Velox makes a 19mm one. Stans, Pacenti, Orange seal stuff is good too, even tho it's meant for tubeless, still works fine with tubes-use 2 layers.

I used Stan's 21mm with absolutely no problems. Made tires much easier to install too.

Those are the ones I have in my 440 rims. I had always stuck with Velox in the past as plastic strips let me down too often. Joe Young, who built my wheels, suggested them and they have been perfect. No flats, no splits and no sticky residue.

Thanks for the comments. I picked up a pair of 19 mm velox strips from AVT Bike. I'll keep the plastic strips in mind for the next go around.

I've heard good reviews on stan's or pacenti's tape, but when you double up the rolls ... it feels a bit pricey.

Ugh, Velox (cloth tape) is the worst. Tubeless tape isn't just for tubeless installations. You can use tubes. Best part is it makes installing tires easier. One roll does at 2 wheels even double wrapped.

I have 440 rims and use tubeless tape on them

Good luck when the Velox shifts and you get holes in the tube as it bursts into a spoke hole. I've seen it happen again and again.

Yup this is what I am using now, so far so good. I got tired of the tube popping in a spoke hole . I am using the offset rear rim and the spoke holes are at the top of the dished section so any movement was causing issues.

I replaced the Velox tape with Zipp tape and it worked well for me.

Sounds like either the Stans No Tubes tape or the DT Swiss plastic rim tape is the hot ticket

Just installed Stans Rim Tape on my RR 440 rims. I'm amazed how easy the tube and tire installed on the rim. No need for levers ... fingers only

While the phrase "absolutely no problems" never applies to me and rim tape, I too found the Stan's 21mm worked well on my RR440 (asymmetrical) rim.

Huh? I have seen exactly ONE failure of Velox in 38 years. Tens of thousands of wheels and flats fixed.

Tubeless tape does work well and frankly, it is needed on the newer rims that are sized for tubeless. e.g. Velocity A23 etc.
