Campy Record Triple to Double

Have a Campy Record triple on my Ottrott and have been considering switching back to the double just for grins. I have all the orginal double group
so all it would cost is chain and possibly cables.
My triple is fine but I very seldom use the small ring and I recently rode a double with small cage that really impressed me with the crispness of the shifting.
Has anyone else done this and if so can I have your input/thoughts?

If you don't need it..

then it couldn't hurt to try the switch. As for the shifting difference, I never noticed any difference when I switched from a double wiht a short cage to a triple with a medium cage. The RDs are identical except for the length of the cage. Shifting "crispness" should not be hampered by the cage length.

You shouldn't need to change cables, if all are in good shape; otherwise, it's the perfect time to recable the bike.

Run a 13-29 in back and a std 39/53 up front with a medium cage.
