Serotta Concours v CTi

I know the CTi predated the Concours. Was it just a name change? The 1999 Catalog shows a picture of the CTi when discussing the Concours.

The Concours serial number started with a CT. What lettering did the serial number of the CTi start with, if any of you still have one? Was it also CT?

I have a 1997 25th Anniversary CTI. The serial number is CT 56 148.

I think the bike in the 1999 catalog is correctly identified. If you read the Concours description, it says "shown in Majorka Green/Matte finish".
Serotta messed around a lot with names and decals for the various models.


Concours that I have seen have serial number codes: CT for stock and CCT for custom.

I'll shoot a couple of pictures tomorrow. I bought the bike used so my assumption about 1997 is only based on a pretty badly worn 25th anniversary decal at the base of the downtube. It definitely has CTI decals on the top tube, near the front and the Serial number starts with a CT, not CTI.

Maybe I've mis-read, but my concours is a CCU. No T.....it's top tube and down tube are tapered. Could be the C custom part, maybe. Good excuse to browse the catalogs!

After taking dusty's advice and looking through the 1998 catalog again, I'm changing my comments about chuckroast's bike. The geometry charts for the CTi and 1999 Concours don't line up exactly, so it looks like there's at least that much difference between them. 1998 CTi has its own geometry chart (seperate from all other models, including Atlanta which was built in the same sizes), 1999 Concours is included with Atlanta, Classique and Peloton. Chuck sounds pretty sure about the serial code, so another one to add to the list.

Now I have to see dusty's bike instead. I measured the TT on my Concours to be sure. It's 33 mm OD at both ends and round. Serial code is C CT.

I thought at first that the CTi (Concours) pic in the 1999 catalog clearly showed a straight TT. After looking again, I'm not so sure. I'm wondering if my Concours could have a different TT because it's a custom? I guess we need to find a Concours that isn't a custom and measure it....

Took my own advice too. My concours is a cross bike apparently the U makes it so, at least two other threads confirm this designation. Since we're both looking at customs of a different shade, we might be confusing the issue. Anyways I get the hint, I'll whip up some pictures.

My recollection is that the Legends had access to a wider selection/assortment of tubes than the Concours but---------the additional available tubes were generally lighter so the weight of a custom Legend using them could be a bit lighter than a Concours for which they were not available. This was of greater value when the rider was light and the frame was a smaller size. My sense was that a heavy rider on a large frame might not get anything different than a name when trading up from a Concours to a Legend.

Dave Kirk would know while I'm only guessing from reading between the lines of communications I had while considering a custom ti Serotta. I loved my stock Legend.

chuck: is your TT round and constant diameter?

I'd like to see Dromen's bike too. Maybe I can coerce him into coming out for a Concours only ride sometime.

The top tube is definitely a constant diameter. The down and seat tubes are CC.
