2013 Fulcrum Quarto

I bought a set of these wheels and have put about 200 miles on them. They feel heavy when compared to similar 30-35mm wheels. Is there a break-in period I haven't completed yet. They spin smoothly but not as freely as my Mavics or Durace wheels...

Anyone have a set of these wheels???

these use a 35 deep rim, no cut away alu, meant to be aero on the cheap, they are quite nice.

what tires are you using

I have Conti Force/Attack tires with Conti tubes...generally lower weoght stuff...

fulcrum/campy just came out with 35 deep carbon wheels

so that means 35 is the latest and greatest

nice prebuilt in my book

or get the zondas with the nicer hubs

I put the Quatros on three different bikes and compared them for speed at the bottom of the same hill [no pedaling] next to my home. On each bike they were approximately 4-5 mph slower than the original wheels [same tires and pressures on two bikes. Two bikes had 15 year old DA hubs...

There's a breakin period or the bearings are screwed...I bought these wheels new. I'm thinking my next step has something to do with a torch or warranty...or sell them to someone I don't like...

the bearings are sealed cartridge, they should spin, do they feel rough>

A 4 - 5 mph diff??? If that is accurate, then there is a lot more going on there than break in. Do the axles feel like they have gravel in them when spun by hand??? Sure your brake pads aren't rubbing the wheels?

That was my thought. My Campagnolo rims are noticeably wider than my Mavics. I have to turn the barrel a number of turns to swap between the two.

Brakes were opened/released...no chance of rubbing with 4-5mm on each side of the rim, bearings feel smooth and are quiet, two wheelsets had the same tires/pressures Quarto [New] and Mavic [15 yrs old] ...I think its the weight of the rims...

They go in the shop tomorrow...if they can't find anything I have a guy that wants them...

Heavier aero wheels with fewer spokes should go down hill faster in theory.

What is your actual weight of your wheelset?

The high rim profile should help pick up speed.

The wheels are quoted in the mid 1700 grams range but were somewhat heavier. When I take the tries and tubes off I will weigh them on my park hanging gram scale...I plan to sell them this week to a local guy who loves Fulcrum.

My mechanic found nothing wrong with the wheels mechanically but rode them on Saturday [100 miles] and didn't like them...
