Clincher Rim Recommendations - 180lbs
Planning to build a second set of wheels that would supplement my aging Campagnolo Neutron wheels. Hubs will be Alchemy 20/24, Sapim spokes.
Wanted to try the Stan's 340 but concerned about weight limit. I don't race, I ride rolling hills and occasional climbs, and don't need anything full aero. Any recommendations? I'm looking to build a strong wheelset for my weight, and would require little intervention. Probably brass nipples over alloy if that helps. Thanks!

Since you're concerned about reliability because of your weight, use a Velocity Aerohead O/C for the rear. The offset spoke bed reduces rear dish and subsequently, spoke tension, by 25 or 50%, I forget. It results in a huge difference in wheel longevity. I speak from experience.

Yup, no way on the Stan's. I'm 205lb and have a 28/32 set and there is visible distortion of the rim at the nipple. No cracking or failure, but I think that will be the result sooner or later. (Maybe not, but these are the only rims I own that look like this.)
Plenty of choices out there - just don't go with uber-light products...

I don't want to be a downer, but from what little I understand the 20/24 configuration for 180 lbs might prove to be quite demanding on the wheelset.
Oh, and as others have mentioned already...Stans 340 is not worth looking at (my local wheelbuilder dislikes them quite a bit, loves Velocity's though)

At about your weight (now) I run the HED Bastognes (aka Ardennes), 18/24h, no problems, two years so far, factory built, 23c tires, usually 90-105 psi (though on a few rides I'd done as low as 60-70 psi).

I don't baby them, they don't get wheel covers, and I've flown with them in a soft case (i.e. they are the first thing to hit something) 5 or 6 times since I got them in 2010. Before these I ran regular 32H rims (out of production FiR Zeniths) or 16/20H Reynolds DV46 clinchers. I also weighed 180-200+ lbs. No problems with those either but I wanted to go with the wider race wheels so I subscribed to the HED set up and got new training and racing wheels in 2010.

No love for the Mavic Open Pro? I have ridden many sets for years. No the sexiest but certainly a work horse rim. I'm a fan of the 32, at 150 lbs, probably overkill. Probably why they last so long. That and an awesome local wheel builder.

I'm really happy with a new set of wheels made for me by Troy Watson of Fairwheel. I weigh 175 and wanted a set of all around wheels. I settled on Velocity A23 rims (24x28,) Chris King hubs (the ne R45s really are quiet,) and sapim spokes; all silver except for the red nipples.
I've only got a couple of hundred miles on the wheelset, but I really like them. I'm running MIchelin Pro3s, 25mm at 85-90 psi. They are sooo comfy and no pinch flats, even after catching air multiple times over speed humps on a steep descent last weekend. I wasn't looking for a lightweight wheelset, but these came in at 1450gms.
