The rubber/EVA Birkenstocks are great. Aside from tearing in front of the front strap, they haven't broken down or worn out too fast for me. Multiple weeks at the ocean, plenty of walking around and they're holding up acceptably well. For $40-$50, well worth it

I totally disagree, given that those Keens look one heck of a lot like the Teva pair on the weekends. When it cools off a bit more I'll add socks, then eventually shift over to "normal" winter stuff. |

for me the very most comfortable footbed
with an arch that works. No socks, with socks, in water, or dry. The only thing they are bad at is when you get sand in them. The toe box is basic wonderful protection until you want to shake sand out.

Mocs
Slip em on and cruise. Surprisingly they work fine with no socks too.

I pretty much live in Luna sandals in the warmer months. https://lunasandals.com
Intentionally not as cushy as Chacos/Tevas, etc. but designed for a long life of active use. |

Alternate days with these. Like leather shoes, you can’t be wearing them consecutive days if you’re going to be doing some intense walking with them. I’ve got two arizonas and some chacos for this reason.
At 16 miles though I can’t help but think you’d be better suited to a walking shoe though. Last edited by retropean; 10-03-2023 at 07:37 AM. |

I love Chacos, and they serve the function in my life that you describe Birks fulling in yours. Winter: wool socks + Chaco (in the house only . Summer: wear them every day. Since they were bouhgt by the big shoe conglomerate, they don't last as well as they used to. I could get 10 years out of a pair, now I'm down to 3ish. If you can find a pair of lightly used ones with the Vibram sole, those are the original and last much longer.

I had a look at the Gizeh, but the thong itself is hard plastic, so it'll cause blisters :/ I guess Chacos are the way. |

If you are OK with the style, then this is absolutely the answer: https://www.pipersandals.com/.
Extremely well made from literally the best materials, namely Horween Chromexcel leather. They last forever. My first pair made it for 7 years being worn literally every day at least May through September and probably most of April and October, too. I finally wore through the sole, but this was only because I seem to drag my left heel, or something. The right one probably could have made it another 5 years. Also, I could have gotten them resoled, but just didn't feel like dealing with it. Cannot recommend enough. |

I'm surprised it's page 3 and nobody tossed in Crocs yet.

True, but some show more than others.
