OT - RIP - Alice of Alice's Restaurant

Almost made it to another Thanksgiving -

https://theberkshireedge.com/alice-b...staurant-dies/

"So we took the half a ton of garbage, put it in the back of a red VW
microbus, took shovels and rakes and implements of destruction and headed
on toward the city dump".

And then ended up along with mean nasty ugly looking people - Mother rapers. Father stabbers, Father rapers on that bench that said Group W.

RIP Alice -

Can someone tell me why this song is a Thanksgiving tradition?

I had a sergeant while in the Army who would have all of single enlisted guys over for Thanksgiving. He played "Alice's Restaurant" every year generally 4 or 5 times in a row. When I would ask him why he played it on Thanksgiving he just told me to "shut the F up and sing the damn song"

Good memories!

"Now it all started two Thanksgivings ago, was on - two years ago on
Thanksgiving, when my friend and I went up to visit Alice at the
restaurant, but Alice doesn't live in the restaurant, she lives in the
church nearby the restaurant, in the bell-tower, with her husband Ray and
Fasha the dog. And livin' in the bell tower like that, they got a lot of
room downstairs where the pews used to be in. Havin' all that room,
seein' as how they took out all the pews, they decided that they didn't
have to take out their garbage for a long time."

Saw Guthrie in concert (1969) at my University. Later that night at the local live music coffee house he showed up in, shall we say, an altered state, along with his road manager, and sat down at the next table. The manager had a tape recorder, taping all the local talent. Wonder why?

Sadly, we can get everything we want at Alices' Restaurant...except Alice anymore.

That’s my memory, also. Last night would have been a good one for Alison Steele to play Riders on the Storm.
