I don’t get an amateur doping. Your life and livelihood don’t depend on it. What’s the point?

"Hey, we'd like to inspect your bike."

"Sure, be my guest!" (Runs away.)

What an a$$hole...

Motor doping aside, it seems like they just slap some carbon over top of the cable runs, so they are visible from the outside. I'm curious to know if that brand sells motorized bikes like that, but not curious enough to go look. Seems like that would be in the story.

I doubt he is using the hub motor, that would be an obvious tell and he wouldn’t make it past the start line without competitors noticing it. The next is the noise, which is how he was implicated. The attached photo doesn’t clearly show the large hub motor so if I were to guess, it seems like he is utilizing an internal battery that powers the cranks similar to what the cross rider from a few years back was busted for.

I'm curious what exactly it is/was. Lapierre appears to make a lot of eBikes but not a road race style one that looks like that.

It does look like the current Lapierre road frames.

Pretty interesting story cause it seems like he probably didn't break any laws and what power does anyone have to go after him if he just doesn't show up again?

Certainly his behavior was incriminating and his car driving behavior almost certainly did break the law.

I think his latter behavior was obviously illegal, and far more serious and infraction than cheating in a bike race.

It's been less than six months since Melissa Hoskins died. Cars can kill people.

You ninja'd me as I was editing my post.

Whether anything happens depends on the police there. Pretty sure I know what the police in most parts of the US would do here.

My initial comments were just about cheating in a bike race. (Was it even a "race" or was it more of a "fondo"?)

That's fair. I don't care about a stupid amateur cheating in an event I'd never heard of and don't care about even after hearing about it.

But yes, please don't drive a car forward if a human is in front of you.

The Routes de l'Oise is a 4 day amateur race in France with a prize list. As to whether motor cheating is an actual crime - it's at least sporting fraud, and is probably an actual crime in France:

How many human beings have you met? The human ego can be quite demanding, and some people will go to great lengths and costs to present the image they want to the world.

For another look at amateur sports cheating, take a look at the MarathonInvestigation web page. There are stories about people from all walks of life who cheat at Marathons and Triathlons for no financial benefit, often just for boasting on social media.
