Since I was 16 years old I've been one of those compulsive 'it's got to be a stick' guys. Whenever I get trapped in local stop and go traffic (which hasn't been often lately) I wonder: what was I thinking?

1990 Volvo 740 16 valve 4 speed manual with electric overdrive. One and only car. It just ticks all the boxes

Everyday for the past fourteen years. Had breif stint with a couple automatics before that and it was manuals before those autos. On the occasions when I drive Mrs William's automatic I often find myself grabbing the shift selector on the center console without thinking about it.

But the problem isn't the manual trans... it's the traffic!

Traffic doesn't bother me, and in the grand scheme of things I don't get stuck in traffic too often. Now, on the off occasion I'm driving in the very steep hilly section of Seattle that's another story. That story has more to do with the fact that people come up on your arse and stop not leaving much room for that little bit of roll back you'll get going from a stop into first gear on the steep grade.

Last time I drove stick was 2011, when I sold the 911 and purchased a Panamera. Panamera shifted way better, I had to admit. ;-^ But the Panamera was nothing compared to Tesla I bought in 2014, which sorta makes any shifting, auto or otherwise, feel like driving a vintage car in a parade. And I bet that's what kids born today will say about driving altogether, since by then it will all be automated.

Nothing better than driving a 39 hp VW bus around San Francisco, bitd. What about your parking/emergency brake?

Before my FJ, I drove nothing but. Mazda Speed and '93 VW Corrado.

While I've gotten rid of the Mazda and VW, I still reach for the clutch in the FJ.

Drove a 911 the other day and it's like riding a bike.....didn't miss a beat. Miss it, and will have another. More than likely a 911.

OT: Last time you drove a stick shift car?

Started with a VW bug as my first car and still have a manual 911 (though it’s up for sale). Will probably buy another bug at some point just because it’s fun to drive!

C'mon, you can't tease us with a "it's up for sale" without a link for info/price?

Do Paceline members get a discount?

Oh, and back to the OP question: I've never not owned a stick. My brain has mindless automatic mode for the Seattle traffic.

lol. It will be up on Bring a Trailer in a week or two. PM me if you are interested. I’d be happy to sell to a fellow Paceliner! Friends and family discount would certainly apply! 51k miles. California car (no rust), totally stock 1995 911 Carrera C2. Last of the air cooled engines!

Good looking 993. I'm looking for a new daily driver so a 25 year old car is not in the cards. You should have no problem selling it since it's a 6sp.
