OT: truck value estimations circa 2021

so, I know you can Kelly Blue Book a truck value pretty easily, but not in today's market.

My Bro-in-Law has a cherry 2002 Toyota Tundra that he is thinking of selling.

(Wish he had that thought last year before I bought mine!)

He bought it new, original owner, 2wd extended cab with 87,000 miles.

Not worth much by blue book standards, but holy hell it ought to be worth alot considering it's condition and low miles.

Any idea how to estimate it's cost realistically in today's market?

If it's got the 4.7 V8 than it is worth quite a bit, maybe 10k or more. If it has maintenance records and has had the timing belt service could be worth even more.

used truck market is bonkers right now and a low miles toyota will command a very high price these days.

finding one with little rust under 100k miles makes it a real cherry.

take a look on ebay and CL and look what they are going for with 200k on the odometer. he should start high and stick to it. i bet someone from out of state will fly in for a diamond like that.

that truck with under 100k is worth much, much more than 10k in todays world.

I’m the original owner of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4 door 4WD TRD package that has only 55,000 miles on it………it’s in absolutely top condition. The interior looks like it came off the showroom floor. The frame has absolutely no rust………I only know because I don’t think it’s ever been driven in the snow. I always wondered what it was worth on today’s market, but I never investigated it because it would be foolish of me to sell it.

I’m embarrassed to say that it’s also never been driven off road…….more embarrassed to say I’ve never activated the electronic rear locking diff. For all I know the engaging solenoid is frozen in place…….I’m afraid to find out.

That is one of the highest value Toyota trucks. Easily could get close to $20k... maybe $25-30 if you get a bidding battle

I paid $23,000 for it back in 2002. I figured it would be worth around $12,000…….if someone was to give me $20,000 lmk and I will send them my address.

In 2019 I paid $24k for a 2013 Tacoma TRD (Sport?) with 4WD and about 47k miles. Extended cab, 6.5 foot bed.

I guess I got lucky that time.

Now I'm within a year or two of moving but the housing bubble has me thinking I'll stay put for a few years, as I think that the prices of sites that I want to buy will go down more than my current house. Is that the right decision? I dunno. Nobody knows.

The V8 Trundra is a really good truck and as mentioned above, under 100k makes it desirable. The Tacomas can have a V8 too, which makes these quite desirable too.

pretty sure no tacoma ever was offered with a V8.

Wow…….I had no idea the market was that generous for one, since I wasn’t really looking to sell. It’s tempting, but since it’s like new it only makes sense to keep it. At the rate it’s being used I probably have another 20 years of life out of it.
