Check yer junk!

I once had an ATAC fork fail on my Yeti at the landing of a series of jumps. Slammed straight to the ground head first. I thought the bars had come loose. had the etto helmet and everything. All that did was dig a deeper hole in the ground with my head.

Those were the days.

It was funny as hell he jumped up and did that. His toptube and downtube dug into the ground pretty hard and flipped over onto him. His was an aluminum frame with shock on the front. Did the jump, came down. Headtube and fork went one way, frame the other.

I've been pretty lucky I haven't had anything major happen. One Scott thermoplastic mountain bar and 1 chain. And the bar came off in my hand while racing. Didn't get hurt, didn't even stop pedaling.

Did he smack his head against a tree?

We're being distracted by angles. Focus on the technology, which opening up so many design possibilities to solve problems with existing frames, including cable routing, frame weight, frame utility. I want a 3D frame. Titanium, of course. Passive rear suspension, split seat stays for a belt drive (or a split dropout), T47 bb, the works. Exciting times.

Not sure what that frame has solved, except complicating the heck out of it.

I agree, a lot of potential for some very special machines with this technology.

No. The ground. The headtube separated from the frame and he face planted hard. Then the backend of the frame flipped over onto his back. So he took 3 hits. Junk into toptube, face into ground, bike onto back. Trifecta of ouchville!

See, I disagree with that last comment. I think this makes designing and actually making bikes better and easier. Not reeeeeeally faster but definitely faster than coming up with new moulds and then casting something. But this is seriously cool technology. And it's come a million miles in the short time it's been around. I love additive technology like this. Totally cost prohibitive for me of course but it's incredible.

I'm not convinced it's a good application, but at least people are working on it. I'm sure there are better applications elsewhere.
