i just read the story. it was not so much a cyclist as a guy on a bike in a rough part of town.

they also pulled a teacher for wearing a gun to class and a homeless guy found a newborn baby in a trash dumpster.

another day in paradise.

In L.A. recently, they ticketed a motorist for using a .45 in a .22 zone. Jeff N.

C'mon Josh, iirc, just about every topic here has the potential to delve into levity, double entendres and/or black/dark/morbid humor:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_comedy
Black comedy, also known as black humour or dark comedy is a sub-genre of comedy and satire where topics and events that are usually treated seriously (death, mass murder, suicide, domestic violence, disease, insanity, fear, drug abuse, rape, war, terrorism, etc.) are treated in a humorous or satirical manner. Synonyms include dark humour and morbid humour. Although very similar, it is not to be confused with gallows humour and off-colour humour.

Several years ago when I still lived in Sacramento, I had a pistol pointed at me out of a moving car. Ironically, it happened on MLK day - must have been in the spirit of brotherly love and whatnot.

Once while out of the saddle and cranking up a steep hill, I deflected a projectile beer can with my chamois. (I keep my wallet in the front of my cycling shorts). It was around 4PM in the afternoon.

Excuse me, I know it's none of my business, but what do you do when you reach Starbucks...? Do you just pull the wallet out and hand the dripping dollars to the nice girl at the counter? Just asking...

If I read the article correctly the person he was riding with was killed by the same shooters, I'd be on the side of the tall one today, not much humor in this.

If that's so, I agree. I didn't read the article, I was posting in response to fixed's OP:

A bullet fired at a man riding in South L.A. is deflected, but a second cyclist is fatally shot.
By Molly Hennessy-Fiske, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
April 30, 2008
A wallet in a man's back pocket shielded him from injury early this morning in a drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles that left a 37-year-old man dead, authorities said today.

Thanks so much.

I find the sleective "moral outrage" interesting given Fixed's OP. I don't recall the same moral outrage when someone likened living under the Pres. to being worse than cancer or the jokes when the VP shot someone, but it's just another day in Serotta land when a false prophet comes back to Earth, I guess. :D

Wait for the book tour.

Nah he just being his jovial Neocon self ;) . BTW I didn't see any "Moral Outrage" I just didn't find the humor in it that Adam apparently did. Of course I find humor in things that he does not so I guess that makes us even. Enjoy the day all. Frank

Exactly. I found Fixed's OP to be humerous and reacted thusly. When you pointed out someone was killed, I agreed with your point.
Not sure if I am a neocon or jovial. :)

93legendti responded initially to fixed's op in which there was no mention of injury or death. His comments in this thread are tame relative to what some often give in other threads without a single comment about them being out of place.

I certainly don't always agree with what 93legendti says or perhaps even how he says it at times, but many say much worse with nary a comment. Different standards for different folks?

Who needs time to type "duck and cover", choose "search titles only" and hit enter? When I read fixed's OP, I instantly thought of e-RICHIE's thread about the shooting. Doesn't everyone remember that thread?

Sandy, the tame relative to what others post is open to much interpretation. I do not share the same opinion on the thread, as you do BUT we can always go riding and discuss.

It is the personal attacks that have zero tolerance. Yeah, then we get into what a personal web attack is on someone  . Hopefully I nor any of the moderators will have to play "bad guy" on individuals....

Example is Cowgirl the past weekend who got into "personal" .

as a professor, if I said I sympathized, someone would probably google this comment and use it against me. But this is where it's heading:

they also pulled a teacher for wearing a gun to class. . .
