Seller says he doesn't know history. Any guesses? I'm not interested in the frame - much too big for me anyway.... but I've seen a lot of repaired frames and have never seen a repair like this before, so I am curious. Weird the way whatever it was seems to have been in-line on either side of the boss, yet somehow didn't involve the boss itself?

Pure speculation, but maybe a crack developed and instead of replacing the tube somebody decided to lay a bead over it?

Edit: Maybe my eyes playing tricks from the picture, but does it look like the boss it pushed in? Maybe something hit the DT shifter and dented the tube. The weld could be to fill up the dent - not that doing so would fix anything...

Aluminum frame to start with, with that bead of weld I would stay away from it for that price, maybe for 50 bucks but for 150? those arent that rare either you know, not that a good one wont show up later on.

Who knows what the story behind that fugly weld, wonder if the frame for smashed in there, the tube went IN and to fix it they added material, looks worse than before for sure. Probably can be filed down?

For 50 ok, for 150 no IMO.

but it seems to be in fine condition. there is a spot on the frame where it appears to have been fixed up a little (shown above) , but my friend who runs a bike shop says its just a cosmetic issue and doesn't effect the frame.

haha, "just cosmetic"

Yea I hiccuped a little coffee when I got to the pic of the weld.

We're sure that's not JB Weld?

Also, direction of the cracks make me think someone was shifting some DT shifters really, really hard.

You'll have a matching scar when it explodes underneath you.

The hapless escapades and adventures of the dumpster diving segment of the sport/hobby. About as interesting as watching the street urchins picking through garbage for the 5 cent bottle returns in any city. Next.

You have street urchins? Where do you live?
