Has anyone tried to rebuild a 10sp Centaur alloy lever? I took my bike into my LBS because I could not get the shifter to move through the entire range of gears.....turns out the ratcheting mechanism is toast.

But here's the problem: apparently for the one year they made the Centaur 10sp shifters in alloy, but in the new 11spd shape they used a sealed bearing assembly that no-one stocks and is uber-expensive to replace: I was quoted $160.

Has anyone else had this issue or found another way around it?

You buy the entire shifter assembly (just like current 11s)...includes shift blade...you install your brake blade, clamp, and hood.

~$60 wholesale...FWIW.

Which lever are you trying to fix? What year/shape? 2006 and older, 2007/8 or new shape, Ultrashift or 2011 Powershift?

And above is correct, if you have a new shape or 2007/8 older shape.

New shape......believe it's Ultrashift as they're the Centaur levers that came in the new shape, but alloy. Pretty sure they only made them for a year or two, max. can't recall what year though. Here's what they look like:

Probably are 2009 or 2010 Centaur Ultrashift. Power Shift after that.

Ratcheting mechanism isn't toast...I've seen/worked on a lot and never seen one become 'toast' yet. Send it to me, I'll take apart, figure out what's going on, send back.

Ultrashift 2009/2010.
