I recently upgraded from a flip style phone to an iPhone, and am finding the iPhone a bit heavy and awkward in my jersey pocket. While I can certainly live with this, I'm wondering if anyone has a better solution to carrying the larger smartphones while cycling. Thanks.

I carry an iPhone or a Blackberry in my center back pocket where I never notice it. Or in my Camelbak where I never hear it.

My iPhone doesn't bother me in jersey pockets even in a giant Otterbox case but if you hate it you could get a small bag under the saddle (if you can stomach that aesthetically).

The center jersey pocket has a way of making bulky must-carry items seem easy. Try it.

Just did a google search for smart phone bicycle mounts.
http://shop.alt-gear.com/products/category/10078.0.1.1.1017033.0.0.0.0 There are many more out there.

I keep mine in my center jersey pocket. I find the GPS feature on the iPhone invaluable in a strange area.

Get an Ibike attachment and use your Iphone as your cycling computer/GPS.

In my center jersey pocket in a zip lock bag. Never notice it.

I would never leave home without my phone at this point. Mainly because I am often solo and ride a lot of rural roads... wouldn't want to be stranded (or lost. The map/gps has saved me a number of times).

Excellent quality; made in the U.S. by a guy (and gal) who ride.

I don[t even bother with the center pocket. I have it in my left side pocket, and never notice it. Ya never know when ya may need to pull it out while riding to text someone.....
I'm waiting for the heads up display

Thanks Elefantino! If you ride with your phone in our jersey pocket, like Elefantino said we make two things, a Jersey Pocket Wallet and a phone sleeve with a touch screen compatible window. We should have 5 more in the shop (http://soulrun.etsy.com) tonight.

Laura, who actually makes all of them rode with the iPhone sleeve today:

Let me know if you have any questions, we hand make all of them at 8200'!

This is where I think it gets a little ridiculous.

Although this would allow you to watch the Tour live while you ride.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll start with the center pocket, and take it from there.

Topeak and another co. I can't recall make handlebar attached holders. Performance Bike sells them.

Props to the Soulrun jersey pocket wallet. I've used mine for a couple of years with an iPhone on one side and cash, ID and Park Tire Boot on the other. Love it! Well made and nifty piece of gear.

I have kept mine in an Otterbox Defender, which I stow in my center back jersey. It's never been a problem, and I like having ready access to the phone, and the camera.

I don't often take pics, but I was recently threatened by a motorist who had stopped his car after passing me. Taking a picture of his license plate de-escalated the situation very quickly.

Otterbox is about to release a fully waterproof case that I will likely purchase to use while cycling, skiing and paddling. http://www.otterbox.com/armor-series/armor-series,default,pg.html

Another thumbs up for the Soulrun jersey pocket wallet. I got the waterproof one and keep the phone (in a case) on one side and cards/money/ID on the other. It's much better than the Ziploc bag because there's no issues with condensation and it holds up much better to repeated opening/closing (I've been using my phone a lot to learn the roads around here).

I had various incarnations of the soulrun products...the jersey pocket wallet and also the phone sleeve - despite ordering top end triple water proof laminate neither prevented condensation on my iphone in the summer, and it was worse in the winter when the phone was in my jersey pocket under a jacket. Although the product works for others, it did not for me. YMMV.

I got rid of the zip loc bag approach and have been very satisfied with this

http://www.rei.com/product/828899/sealline-iseries-iphone-case

basically a ziploc on sterioids. completely water proof.

Yep...right rear jersey pocket in a ziplock bag with a $5 bill. It's my camera and way to call home in case I need it.

YES, simply leave it home

Heck no.

It's a safety device, say in case of an accident, to call 911.

It's a facility device, say in case of a bad mechanical where you can't keep going, so you call a spouse, friend, taxi.

It's an orientation device, say if you're off route and need to look at the map.

I will say that I don't answer the phone much when I'm riding -- not that I get tons of calls -- and I don't play Angry Drivers (or whatever the name of that game is) while cycling either.

Dave, who keeps his iPhone in the center pocket and keeps the phone in a Timbuktu case for the padding which helps make it softer and protects it in case it drops
