No matter how epic the photos look when you make them "more" black and white, knickers on guys with spindly legs look dweebish. Black and white photos of riders from the 1930's don't look dweebish...but whatever...

Very well done. Rapha should have the piss taken out of it. I know, I know, great quality at a ridiculous price all wrapped in the most over the top marketing in an industry that prides itself on over the top marketing.

Here we go...

JVA Cycling Caps

The normal JVA cap. But more expensive.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Exactly the same as the normal JVA cycling cap. But the picture is in black and white. And the hat is a lot more expensive. Because we believe that the “laws” of supply and demand are really more like “guidelines” and we can make you demand more if we raise the price.

The hats are full sublimated and made of sporty fabric that doesn’t get all bunched up under your helmet and doesn’t go all wonky when you wash it.

That's funny stuff!

Some rides are so special, that we’re forced to make our black and white photos of them even blacker and whiter. If we were to tell you this ride was “fun” it would somehow cheapen it. If the pictures showed us giggling like children, then the ride would be for nothing. Because recreational cycling should be a chore. Something that you undertake to make yourself miserable. Because cyclists in the 1930′s looked miserable, and we want to look like cyclists in the 1930′s*. Out on country roads. With the rare Oregon sunshine on your face. Overlooking vistas. Standing in a full size replica of Stonehenge chatting with a guy in camo pants and a pet bird on his shoulder. All miserable. All the time.

* It should be noted that people in the 30′s didn’t have smartphones or Strava or $300 jerseys or 16lb bikes either. But whatever.

I'm totally <3ing those paisley colorways. (Especially in B&W.)
I would have sent them my $21 for the cap if it weren't out of stock.

This made the rounds last fall. Probably would have gotten more notice (and gone to 10 pages) if Rapha had been in the thread title. Very funny stuff.

Something about Jens saying; "You don't have to be afraid to touch it" just strikes me as wrong.

So, after perusing this, is it a real thing? is it a team's home page, with a satirical twist?

Pretty good.

Serious humor factor there! Kinda like what a John Stewart or Steven Colbert "feature story" on the world of geek, brand obsessed cyclists would be like. Just simple, inane funny stuff that some will "get" and others either won't or will take waaaay to seriously.

Those guys are creative. Interestingly, if you look at the pic that says "Dalles Mountain" that's a clue as to who the guys are that did it and where they're from. It hit me as soon as I saw the pic/location...check this website:

velodirt.com

If you look around the site you'll see "Dalles Mountain" and you'll see what I mean. If you're not from around this neck of the woods you'd never reference Dalles Mtn as it's in the middle of literally nowhere.
These guys are pretty cool and put on some amazing rides including this weekend's "Rapture", which unfortunately I have to miss, as well as a host of other epic sojourns. This seems like something they'd do. Maybe, maybe not.

I believe the ride is referred to as "Dalles Mountain" because the name of the road off of Highway 14 which contains the dirt road climb is named "Dalles Mountain Road."

Speaking of Rapha... or not speaking of Rapha... or speaking of not speaking of Rapha....

http://bikeeffect.com/email/rapha-ride-3/

Thing is, I'm not sure if by "gentleman" they mean the kind of gentleman who wears a lot of tweed and smokes a pipe, or a gentleman who sports a lot of ink and hangs out at the Ba Da Bing.

I have not ridden it but it is on my list to do in the next few weeks. I spend a fair amount of time in the "Gorge" over each summer. You can guess why: "Vientomas" - More wind.

Here is a link to a ride I did last May that is nearby:

http://g.co/maps/acfkw

I started in Glenwood and went south along the Klickitat River and then climbed out of the canyon back to Glenwood. There is a section of dirt road between the top of the climb outside of Klickitat and Glenwood The battery in my phone died before I finished the ride, that's why the loop is not closed.

Have you done the Dalles Mountain ride? It looks fun - in black and white.

That's a great looking route you rode. We ride that area quite a bit both the paved and non-paved roads. There are some great rides on the other side of the river that go up through Dufur and then climb up through the forest to Hwy35 and the lower flanks of Mt Hood. There's also a couple great routes east of where you were in The Dalles. There's a climb called "8mile climb" that allows you to do a really nice route that includes Rowena Crest.

We do a great road loop from Lyle to Goldendale and back. Love the riding out there. Haven't done anything on dirt/gravel out there yet, but i envy those Velodirt rides.

If I'm Rapha I'd acknowledge them, after all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
