I'm no expert wheel builder but they both appear to be a combo of 2 and 3 cross and different length spokes. Maybe it's the silver and black mix but they look all wrong from here. Happy to be corrected

The valve hole is between parallel spokes on both wheels, which is the traditional way to do it.

By my eye, the rear is 32 spokes 3x on both sides, while the front is 28 spokes 2x both sides, which is pretty standard.

What can't be seen in the photo is the gauge/thickness of the spokes. It's generally not recommended to mix spokes of wildly different gauges (such as mixing straight 2.0mm spokes with DT Revolution 1.5mm spokes).

haha...I think the messy cables all over the place did not help with the optical clarity. Sorry, not drilled for internals.

Here's my "box"...filled with the spokes that I brought home from the coop over the years. Some of the same length...some maybe not.

Sorry charlie pal, I called the shop owner/mechanic/wheelbuilder earlier. He was quite impatient with me on the phone, apparently he was out enjoying himself on the bike. I don't blame him, the rain had stopped and it was glorious outside this morning.

Before he hung up, he said there's no warranty on those wheels, no refund either, basically I am stuck with these POS. I am really pissed!

I need to warn my pals here on paceline to avoid this shop at all costs...

If you happen to pass by this LBS "WeiSanGarage_ClampTopTubeRepairStand_SqueezedChai nstaysforTireClearance_HomeMadeDiscBrakeTab_WrongL acedWheels@LeanderTX"....

Don't go in! Not even if's life and death.

Oh no, I am not...and as if there's not enough evidence pointing the other direction, i just got back "testing" the wheels after filling them up with sealant. The front wheel was making a weird whizzing sound. I got back home, checked it, couldn't find anything wrong (other than the lacing) , then it suddenly dawned on me, I was putting a 12mm TA through a 15mm hub and riding around like a boss...whistling and singing, completely oblivion to the danger I am putting myself in.

Gap, parallel spokes, at valve hole with crossed spokes opposite looks to be 3 'spaces' over...

Does it make a difference in 'wheel performance' if the wheel is true, round, tensioned properly and even? Nope but it would drive me nuts..altho my lacing 'method' that I have used for 33 years would prevent that.

Why'd you go with washers?

That is a Digital Height Gauge. It makes measuring Flange offset so simple and precise.
Measure OLD, divide by two. set height gauge at 1/2 OLD. Zero the gauge.
Move right flange, note offset. Move to left flange, note offset. done!

I always go with washers on carbon rims for several reasons.
distributes the pressure load of the nipple seat to a greater surface.
Ease of nipple turning. Metal-grease-metal is easier than Metal-Carbon.
enhanced nipple exit angle. the concave washer acts as a pivot point to allow the nipple to better align with the spoke entry angle.

Nice apparatii!

I'll second the use of washers (and lube) to make turning the nipples much easier, some of these carbon rims effect quite a troublesome grip at the nipple seats and one might struggle to achieve even 100kg.

Man, you sure have the shop setup! It looks like you did the front on that last set radial heads in? I’ve done a wheel that way as well (with that same hub!), should be stronger if a teensy bit less aero, but I hardly ever see it. Why did you choose it?

Thanks, Doug
