If not Shamals, then what?

It seems like it's becoming a bit challenging to find rim-brake Shamals. Not impossible, mind you, so I'll probably order a pair while they're still out there. But I'm wondering what else I should consider in a factory-built, rim-brake, aluminum clincher. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks!

First suggestion: if you want to experience actual cycling bliss, you absolutely must lace up your own set of tubulars, you coward.

Is this true? (Unbeknownst to me) my first road bike had tubs, and as I recall it cornered so nicely, to the point that people would complement my technique. Then I flatted after riding over a piece of glass, went to change the tube, and was like “*** is this?” Coincidentally, that led to my first time building my own wheel. I haven’t ridden tubulars since, and thought they were an anachronism. But are they they still considered to give a superior ride?

Zondas are another option, weight difference between the two is pretty minimal. They are still available from distributors.

Another option is Fulcrum Racing Zero, which is basically a Shamal with a different lacing pattern. Again, may be not be as available as they were in the past, but they can be found.

HED still offers Campy freehub — you just need to buy it separately and install.

Zonda is always the answer!

They'll come poorly packed but do arrive intact.
