Built this from the sofa a couple weeks ago with a broken leg. My physical therapist was not pleased. Finallly got around to attaching and trimming lines and giving the brakes a full bleed.
Lots of firsts here for me. First Shimano 12 drivetrain w/Microspline. First SuperBoost 157 spaced rear end. First time running a rotor over 180mm. First long travel bike (168mm rear/175mm front). First alloy full suspension frame. No XX1 or XTR here. Everything here is pretty modest and shouldn't break the bank if I need a crash replacement. I almost always build with DT hubs (I like the flexibility of being able to easily swap freehub bodies), but decided to give the new XT hubs a shot as I got the pair for under $100. The new freehub mechanism is pretty trippy. When up to speed, the ratchets disengage and the freehub is completely silent. I believe it's based on the failed Scylence XTR hubs, but they inverted a spring for reliability, so it still makes noise at lower RPMs. |

Just finished this years Halloween ride...60's Columbia Sterling. It went from a coaster brake single speed to 5 speed with a front hand brake

Rud, nice choice. The Warden is a bigger bike than I need but I am interested in Knolly. Please share your thoughts once you ride it!

Swapped in the medium cage rear derailleur today - and the Bikingreen 46/30 chainrings. Overall pretty painless, but having trouble with some of the fine tuning. I forgot that I kind of dislike these wheels (King class and I think V2 Pacenti SL23), I've never been able to set up a medium cage derailleur without getting spoke rub against the derailleur cage. Have tried with many different derailleurs and cassettes. I kind of wish I could afford to ditch these and get something better suited.
Still waiting for my actual brakes.... I think it's been two months? I don't want to faff with setting these up (and I should sell them anyways) since I'll be replacing them. Last edited by mwynne; 10-31-2020 at 06:26 PM. |

I’ve found Campagnolo/fulcrum wheels provide plenty of cage clearance.
I love that bike! |

Ottrott
Not really a "winter" project (I live in Phoenix) but since I'm lacking some mobility due to a recent TKR, this will keep me busy...
I wasn't really happy with the existing paint scheme on my Ottrott so off it went to Allan Wanta for a re-do.....stripped to bare carbon and titanium...sprayed with semi gloss clear over minimum decals for an understated look. I'm happy! build will be with Ultegra/Dura Ace, Thomson stem, carbon bars and seat-post, and Mavic Krysium Pro Carbon SL UST wheels with Schwalbe Plus One tubeless 30mm. Old New |

I would be tempted to go with black velocity quill rims. Silver spokes. |

Still trying to decide on build for the Carrera. Been in the stand for a while. Pretty sure going with the Look carbon fork (aluminum has got to go), PMP carbon post over Miche and white DT wheels over black Roval Pave SL's. Now, white Flite saddle and bar tape or black?
New arrival Grandis is off to Franklin Frames for dropout replacement. Will be Springtime for this one. Can't wait. Last edited by gbcoupe; 10-31-2020 at 06:55 PM. |
