What happened to red Open Pro rims?

When did Mavic stop making the open pro in red? I thought it was a popular color. Are trends changing? Personally I lean towards the more muted colors but just when I need a red rim to rebuild a set of Helium wheels there are none to be found. I'm sure there was a plethora of them available last week.

Just any red Open Pros won't work, will they? Wasn't the Helium in an odd drilling?

I do have a pair of lightly used red Open Pros if you're interested. PM me.

As usual, 11.4 is probably correct. IIRC, the helium was a 24f/26r or 28r - I'm not sure...Also, the helium was a contemporary of the reflex rim, which was a little later than the open4, but predated the open pro. I think the reflex is a lighter extrusion than the open pro and had a rep for being a little "soft"

The red Open Pro never appears in a mavic catalogue between 1984 - 2008
and that's right, the Helium front is 26 hole, rear is 28 hole.

1997 to 2000 the red Helium wheels are in the mavic catalogue.
1996 to 1998 - reflex clincher is offered in Blue in 28 and 32 hole
1998 to 2003 - open pro is offered in Blue in 32 hole
2000 - the MA3 is offered in red in 32 hole
2002 - the CXP33 is offered in red 28 or 32

there may have been red Reflex or Open pro rims made for OEM in the period,
but finding a 28 hole one might be tough. (assuming a rear is needed)
Maybe he can fnid a cxp33.

I'm skeptical when shops say that mavic says no. It's too easy to get a lazy
person, at either mavic or the LBS, and just brush off this question. Does
mavic france have one? that'd be the question i'd have for customer service.

ps - i have waaaay too many catalogues!

Luckily I need the rear and the ERD is 622, same as the recent Open Pro, 28 hole. Can anyone explain why Mavic would do 26 hole on the front?

I agree with you Grant, sometimes the shop really does have the item you've been searching for, and sometimes, with enough pleading, they will actually go and look for it.

they originally sold the helium as a lightweight wheelset. the 26 front was 2 spokes lighter and done in an odd drilling, presumably, to prevent folks from making their own.

OK, but why not go even lighter still with 24 spokes. You can actually find a 24 hole rim.
26 hole rim means 13 spokes a side. Seems odd to me.

The ERD of the Open Pro is 607 not 622.
