Anyone have any experience with this fitting system?
Retul fitting system
Have a chance to try it out for a pretty good price, but still not cheap. It's an LED dynamic system that shows how everything is lining up, etc. Worthwhile or snakeoil? |

looks similar to what they offer at Andy Pruitt's clinic

he had only problems with their setup stange for me is that they only looking at joint not muscle tension and stress and if you do setup like that it seems that they want all people ride the same if we do a measurement we need at least 256 locations before we even begin

I have been to see Andy Pruitt to get a dynamic fit because of knee issues I had. More accurately I really went to see Andy Pruitt to get evaluated and he happened to use the dynamic fit process as one of the tools he had at his disposal. He interviewed me, examined my knees and ordered x-rays, read the x-rays and had me get on my bike for the dynamic fit portion (all in an afternoon).
Prior to the dynamic fit he determined I had a 9mm leg length inequality. During the dynamic fit he spent most of his time watching me, just like Tom Kellogg did for my intitial fitting. My observation during the process was that Andy was using his experience as a fitter to evaluate me and using the data from the dynamic fit tool to show me what he was observing. I learned a great deal about my crappy pedaling action and the impact a leg length inequality had on knee and ankle angles. I ended up with shims for my leg length inequality and wedges for my fore foot valgus (opposite to what the vast majority of people have and confirmed by my PNP wife's observation that my gait is totally screwy). So was the tool responsible for arriving at my fit? No. Andy Pruitt's experience as a clinician was primarily responsible. I think he would have arrived at the same solution through just his observations. So was it worth the trouble to get the dynamic fit. Yes. For me, as an engineer, I rely on data, observations and experience to diagnose engineering issues. I see the same process occurring with Andy Pruitt. He didn't rely solely on the data to arrive at his fit recommendations. That's why I think this tool like any other system has to have an experienced clinician as part of the equation. The tool is no better than the human operating it. As a tribute to Tom Kellogg's initial fit Andy only changed my seat height to accommodate my shims. Andy also remarked that Tom had done an outstanding job designing a bike around a cyclist who was off of the bell curve. My pedal stroke has improved dramatically since my visit to Boulder. My brother-in-law doctor riding partner observed me before and after and remarked that my painful to observe pedal stroke was dramatically improved. This is purely atmo of course.

he was psyched when I raised the seat on the three year old bike....but really confused. he said his car wasnt 25 watts slower when the seat was 4cm further forward. you can't make this Shiite up. btw this dude's a long course triathlon world champion in his age group. no lasers used but I did make him buy me some soup.
