Talahassee Cross

I got 8th in Race #2 of the Florida Cross series. It was a beautiful 70 degree day in Tallahassee. I felt a ton better than my last race as I was recovering from the flu.

The race started up a steep paved climb before putting us into the woods. I felt good up the climb and left the pavement in about 6th place. We did a lot of winding ups and downs, a few high speed descents then hit the stairs. My transitions were good and I was closing gaps all race on them. The second half of the course was tough. Barriers, trenches and sand pit with several slick off camber turns which tested the old mtb skills. I got passed by 4-5 people this lap and used the next 3 laps picking them back off. I did it in the obstacles mostly. I was moving well and having fun. On the second from the last lap I had a mechanical. Got a new wheel and was off. I got passed by 3 riders when I was stopped and quickly passed them back with the adrenilin rush. I was on fire and hammered the last lap. It might have been the fastest lap of the race for me. It's always fun to have a good race and for me this was a great result. Not bad for my second cross race. I'll have the confidence next weekend to push a little harder.

Next weekend we are at home on the Orlando course. It will be flat and mostly grass. I should do even better.

No I have the ubiquitous redline for cross. My Sach's are road and track. Maybe the gods will smile on me and I'll have one someday.
