Fulcrum 7's...

Anyone know how the hubs on these would compare to, say, Ultegra hubs??
Buddy is looking for a cheap training wheelset, and we are trying to figure out if it is better to build a set of Ultegra/OP's or go with the Fulcrums, which can be had for about $225 US...

The F7's are very nice and well made wheels for even twice what they cost. Hard for me to believe you can get a built pair of OP's that could come compete at their price.

I've got 5 EVO's (2007's), and they are very nice, esp. @ 299 bucks.
A good bit lighter, and w/aero spokes as well.
I wish I could give you a personal comparison to the 7's, but the new 5's are solid, fast wheels.

I got my red racing 7's on ebay for $170. They have very smooth hubs and seem rock solid. I'm not sure if the bearings are loose or cartridge.

I was just generalizing. I'd probably grab him a $50 pair of ambrosio rims, and maybe some ultegra hubs off ebay. Then just spokes to finish the set. Pretty cheap.

i'd go Ultegra/ Open Pro without second thought. personally, i don't like the hubs, and don't recommend that wheelset when someone comes in asking for wheels in that price range.

I have a pair of the old Fulcrum 5's and they are pretty good.
Maybe go Ultegra / Reflex...
