I'm always confused about image uploads

If you look at this post:

https://forums.thepaceline.net/showp...7&postcount=16

you'll see that I've attached a couple images and referenced them inline. Is there some way to get the attachments to not display at the bottom of the post? The one thing I like about Flickr is the ability to reference different sizes of the same photo, but I'm moving away from them. Google Photos (I already pay for gobs of disk space) doesn't support such a feature, so I wind up downloading images, scaling them to suit, then uploading the scaled version. That leaves me with the double display mess shown above.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Some more googling suggests that image handling is better in more modern versions of vBulletin. We are on 3.8.7 here but version 5.7 is the latest. Guessing the chief obstacle to upgrading might be time and not money as the software itself is not super expensive.

I use Google photos and this free tool to generate an embeddable URL: https://www.labnol.org/embed/google/photos/

That gets me a URL like this one (mouse over it to see the entire thing) which I use in the "Insert image" tool and then change the =w2400 to a width that fits better

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/w0...TEiVRUVA=w2400

This has the width set to 600 (=w600):

And then I can add text below the Insert image block like this.

It's kinda clunky but it works

Nice, thanks. I was able to extrapolate what that site is doing to generate the relevant forum fragment. Not sure why I didn't think of that. I guess I expected vBulletin to do it somehow.

Click on "User CP" on the main menu bar

Under "Networking" click on "Pictures & Albums"

Create an "Album" if you don't have one already, once created you can also edit your pictures and albums from here.

Click on "Upload Picture"

Click on "Chose File" and find the picture you want to upload on your computer
Upload the image

Click on "Upload Pictures"

Click on "Save Changes"

In your "Album" click on the picture you want to post, the picture will expand and the "Picture URL" and "BB Code" will be automatically create for you below the picture.

Copy the "Picture URL" or "BB Code" and use it in your next post however you want to.

Thanks, Marc. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have figured that out on my own.

Given the idea I went ahead and implemented it on my website:

https://www.smontanaro.net/photolink

It's unlikely to be any better than the labnol.org link, but coding it up was a nice little diversion.

In a world where most sites allow you to just click the image icon and upload from whatever device you are on, the tech on this site is like a webpage that I created in HS back in the 90s.
