Revival of the Lollypop Revolution- Group Buy-Speedplay X springs

Background:

This organically grew from a comment about sourcing or the lack of Speedplay X cleats in the current market. The resale market for these parts are now astronomical and a new set of cleats are north of $150-200.

Either users gave up on not being able to find parts or got hit with the reality of price gouging. We have a number of users who are still using the older X series pedals.

Users of these pedals know the springs or wires are what gets worn the most. Once the springs become flat, they become loose and now a nightmare to get in and out.

Read more from this thread:
https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=291260

Someone threw out the idea of possibly sourcing some springs using a company specializing in “wire forming”.

I got a hold of Quick Springs in Santa Fe Springs, California and they are able to make these springs for us.

They will make these out of 302 stainless steel and they will be just like the original springs. The company will use the original spring and replicate the dimensions using CAD. I will supply the original springs, housings and pedals so they can make sure the replicas are exact one for one.

We have to buy 1000 springs (500 left and 500 right). Each cleat uses two springs or a total of four springs. With 1000 units, that’s 250 sets that needs to be claimed.

The price per set (4 springs) will be $22 plus shipping.
Note: in the past, these were sold for $40 and came with springs, holders and shoe adapters.

These springs are for the X1, X2 or X3 pedals.

So far we have around 22 users that have expressed interest in buying and probably 100 sets claimed. We want to get the word out for more people to join this group buy so it can become a reality.

Please respond to this chain if you’re interested and the amount you’re willing to purchase (sets).

I’m just a bike servant and don’t kill me with your negative comments. I’m just trying to help with a need in this community. I welcome suggestions to make this successful.

I received the blessing from Angryscientist to start this thread.

Actually, come to think of it — would it make sense to create a google form for submission? That way everyone can upload their info and the people organizing this can better keep track of the quantity that needs to be ordered.

Might be especially helpful as it sounds like people in other forums might want to register their interest in a few sets.

If this would be helpful let me know and I can put together a form later tonight.

They should be able to view the forum without being a member, however if they want to post they would need to join as a member. A link to a Google form should be accessible to all, regardless of member status.

Hey all,

Just bumping this to say that we put together a google forms sheet to help corkycalvin keep track of the running tally of replacement spring sets.

There is a link to the form in the original post above, but you can also access it here:
