Cuba
What are your thoughts on the Cuba travel ban?

As a Canadian, this is great news. Cuba got expensive with all the US tourists. Cycling content: riding there is amazing. Food and internet connections; not so much.

Why would you want to go unless you had family? There are other beautiful places in the Caribbean and central America.
I am in trade compliance so deal with these continual floating US regulations... |

IMO, this is a short-sighted policy fomented by hawks who can't get past 1962. We can re-establish relations with Viet Nam after 50,000+ US deaths, but continue to impose these sanctions/restrictions on Cuba. IMO, the best way to change Cuban leadership/policy is to establish economic relations and let that relationship lead the way.

I have always wanted to go, I have European passport so this does not disrupt anything but was going to try to go there later this year since wife and I will be in the cayman islands, she is American though so might present a problem now. |

We loved our visit to Cuba. Yes if you just want a beach, there are other places in the Caribbean.
But if you explore the nation you will see a rich history, fabulous people. Oh and a better medical and educational system than ours and fantastic support of the arts so the nation is very rich culturally. A ban on travel to Cuba is just bone-headed. Especially because it was American corporations, the Mob, and US meddling that caused the situation for it to become a Communist nation. At least Fidel made sure his people were educated and healthy. We are like all empires that failed rapidly when led by non-worldly isolated leaders. We have been fighting the last war on many fronts for the last two years. We know where that got the Romans and where it got the French with the Maginot Line. This Cuba ban is just one piece of the dismantling of the America that was great into the joke we have become in the last two years. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Not sure why any freedom loving individual would choose to go to Cuba. Last I heard, the government takes a disproportionate share of tourism revenue and people there do not enjoy many freedoms we highly value.
At the same time, there are many other countries with severely curtailed civil rights that the US seems to have no problem working with (cough, KSA, cough)... so the travel ban seems fairly capricious to me.

Well yeah. It's ultimately a political decision by the US government about its citizens ability to visit another nation.

The ban is small minded bull**** done solely for personal political gain.

This is 100% correct. It's idiotic and not making America great.

Any program, idea, plan, law created from the guy in the WH from Jan 2009-Jan 2017 is a target. Wee ego involved, enviable approval rating.
