Angry goes Disco - Ride report!!

Tomorrow will be my first experience with disc brakes

-will i live to tell about it?
-will i slice myself open like a gutted fish with a red hot rotor?
-will i convert and dispose of all my rim braked bicycles?
-will i hate it and throw the bike off a malibu canyon road?

story tomorrow at 5!

My vote is you'll ditch all your rim brake bikes..Is that the tarmac? That color scheme is definitely an acquired taste...

Abandoning disc brakes when I switched from MTN/XC to road was a total drag. Honestly not a huge issue on road unless I'm doing big descents, and then it's probably mostly psychological. Anywho, enjoy the ride!

Bunch of weirdos out there in California. Fake burgers sold in Carl's Jr. fast food joints, electric cars clogging up carpool lanes and everyone runs around smoking weed. And riding disc bikes. Be careful.

Disc. Wider tires. The way of the future.

Having said that, just put down my deposit on (almost assuredly) the last rim brake bike I'll own. Gotta have one.

I thought there would be images of AS wearing mirrored sunglasses, an open wide collared shirt, and bell bottoms in the thread..

I am disappointed that the discussion is about brakes. Can we have a rule about not-quite-truthful thread headers??

You'll like the disc brakes for riding in Malibu especially when it's wet. Go down Tuna canyon - that should be a good test of the braking

I got my first taste of discs in Maui last December. 60 mile ride with 4100 feet of up.
I was very impressed, especially since i have always thought discs on a road bike are overkill.
I enjoyed the easier lever actuation, the consistant feel, and the predictability of the brakes.
I was worried the rotors would ping and clank like on mountain bikes, which would drive me insane on the road, but they were dead silent. I also like how the wheels are always in the right spot with thru axles without thinking about it.

I will definitely look into discs the next bike i get. However i will never rid my fleet of my lightweight simplistic rim brake bikes. The disc bike will be a nice addition for longer rides, but for a 30 mile hammerfest, i will take a rim bike!

Enjoy your ride!

Wait, it’s raining in Los Angeles??? We have actually had a really rainy cold winter...

You should be good to go by the morning. Not sure where you are staying or where or when you plan on riding, but I’ll be out riding tomorrow morning ( but not too early ) . I’ll be heading north from MDR and do a bit of climbing in the Palisades.

Let me know.
