R.I.P.Paul Sherwen

There are multiple twitter feeds reporting the death of Paul Sherwen, who in broadcasting partnership with Phil Liggett brought cycle racing to the masses in the U.S.

Regardless of opinions of their competency in the later years, they helped bicycle racing become popular, particularly the Grand Tours and helped spur road cycling a a large way.

I see more reports now, including a heartbreaking note and photos from his daughter. Also, Team Dimension Data just published their condolences, so I am assuming the news is true, sadly. His humor and enthusiasm were wonderful.

This is among many twitter feeds I’ve seen regarding his passing. I don’t subscribe to twitter but apparently Paul’s death is so recent, twitter is right now the only source.

British Cycle Sport is reporting it now.

So sad....

I have a picture taken of he and I on my refrigerator. The pic was taken in Ottrott, France at the hotel we were staying at when I went over the the Serotta crew to enjoy the TDF. What a character! He told some really great stories and was just a pleasure to have with our group.

Man this sucks. I know many on here didn't care for Paul and Phil but I loved listening to them. Will be weird tuning in to the grand tours without Paul commenting. RIP

Watching the Tour won’t be the same. Paul and Bob Roll had a nice vibe on some of the non-Tour races.

Always enjoyed listening to them.

Phil without Paul just won’t seem right.
