The taunting and heckling seemed rather tame.
Way more happens among fans at college games.

She said it angered her...and made her ride harder.
So she did well racing. I would laugh about it were it me.

Heckling in a nonteam sport is sad.

I can't help but think a heckler like that would place dead last in the women's race. So screw him.

I took an 11 year break for CX racing, 2006 to 2017. Went from 2nd in state in Masters to about dead last. The fields were bigger, good. Crowds were much bigger, good. The attitude was terrible. I raced about 4 weekends and hung it up. It wasn't worth "Hecklers Hollow" and all of the other BS that people saw in videos... The further back one was the more **** one endured. And to think, this was my favorite sport...

Embrace the power of "and."

Thin skinned

That's like heckling in gym class at elementary school. Right or wrong, toughen up and just pray that the 2nd place check cashes...and isn't Kohls cash or something

i was there on saturday, there was a pack of guys who had something derogatory to say about every rider who went by at the bottom of the run-up.
pretty easy to do that when you're just standing around drinking.
that gets old really fast, even when i'm blocking out 99% of it to get my photos.
i'm with Courtenay on this.

heckle your friends, cheer strangers.

Heckling isn't really my thing, but that seemed surprisingly tame to get worked up about.

This is 100% correct
because the rider has to know the intent.

the closest I come to heckling a stranger is when they are beating my friends in a race and I say something like, "Don't embarass my bud! Slow down!"

But it's all gotta be out of love because everyone is pouring their guts into it.

IMO Heckling is always sophomoric and for those without anything of value to say or think.

a bunch of drunk sports fans stood around heckling riders, making a scene that nobody cared for and some even found offensive, and everyone--racers included--just stood around with their hands in their pockets and complained about it on the internet after the fact.

bernard hinault would be disappointed in this.

Folks know what they are getting into when they decided to do cx racing.
If they don’t want their feeling hurt they should get another job/hobby or grow thicker skin. Some people just want to get into the rider head, but it's usually all in good fun, like in this instance.
