They are as sexy as they seem. I really wish I put one on my Festka instead of a Chris King which is really weird to say. Yes, they are all that.

The lack of excessive branding (excessive even on CK SV) and the much-less-bulbous profile are so much nicer looking than CK, imo.

If that Ellis didn't come with the King in the pictures... A polished Phil would be a jewel up front!

It did not. I was going to move the silver CK from my Kirk to the Ellis (putting a black CK SV on the Kirk), but I think splurging on one of these may be a good call. Although, it would look best next to a polished stem, like a Nitto.. Hmm. I could also send Dave a stem to get painted the Ellis blue next time they’re doing a frame. That’s probably the winner combo.

Velo Orange offers a very nice mirror polished headset. I’ve had one on my Milholland for 7 years, still beautiful and working perfectly. Surprisingly inexpensive.

In photos online, it still looks pretty visible; and in any case what has been seen cannot be unseen....

Stack height

The PW stack height is on the upper end, if that is ever an issue, but at least not as bulky as the CK:

24.5mm: Campagnolo: 1 1/8" "Record Threadless"; total stack height = 24.5mm (upper = 12.3mm; lower = 12.2mm).

24.6mm: tune (Acros): 1 1/8" "Bobo"; total stack height = 24.6mm (upper = 12.4mm; lower = 12.2mm).

27.0mm: PMP: 1 1/8” “ST-05”; total stack height = 27.0mm (upper = 13.6mm; lower = 13.4mm).

28.0mm: Cane Creek: 1 1/8" "110 EC"; total stack height = 28.0mm (upper = 16.0mm; lower = 12.0mm).

28.5mm: Phil Wood: 1 1/8" "PW-HS"; total stack height = 28.5mm (upper = 15.5mm; lower = 13.0mm).

31.4mm: Chris King: 1 1/8" "NoThreadSet"; total stack height = 31.4mm (upper = 17.7mm; lower = 13.7mm).
.

Not to veer too far off course but for 1" threaded headsets I prefer the old standard Tange Levin NJS 1" Threaded Headsets which (I think) were copied after the old steel Campagnolo Record Strada headset but for that, I defer to Old Potato.
