Convert Pre-2007 Campy shifters to QuickShift

Just heard from a LBS mechanic campy connoisseur, that most of us with relatively new Campy Record shifters (pre-2007) WILL be able to replace components (relatively inexpensively) in our current Record shifters to the 2007 QuickShift mechanism. This connoisseur even went so far as to say you could keep the front der if desired, however, would lose a little efficiency.

If true, this would be a relatively inexpensive way to update shifters so as to take advantage of QS. (I'd probably change out the front der. given the somewhat lower price of this component.)

What say you?

I would say no if it means less index positions with front derailleur. I prefer to have as many clicks as possible with the front derailleur so I can adjust it easily with a triple crankset. Fewer clicks (or positions) means it will be harder to set up.

My '98 and '02 record and '03 chorus shift just fine. Now the '82 sr leaves a bit to be desired....

I guess I'm not quick enough, whats QuickShift, the new campy?
