Extra-long brake calipers
Working on a small project for a friend. The long brake calipers are too short (5-7mm).
Do any decent calipers exist that are longer than 73mm? All I can seem to find are crappy calipers for beach cruisers

Dia-Compe 750 centerpulls are 78mm reach.
Mafac Raid are 80mm reach but they tend to go for good money. The Compass centerpulls have the same reach and are even more expensive. Are you doing a 650B conversion? I can't imagine anything else that would require something longer than 73mm.

Rivendell might have something. If they don't show anything on-line I would phone them because they might have a few left from past projects.

I just found some Tektro double pivots on the Riv site that go to 77mm. They also have centerpulls that go bigger.

Or use offset brake pad holders with the brakes you've got:

Tektro 800a is slightly longer than the tektro 559 and is dual pivot. They have decent stopping power

Was seriously considering those Paul Racers to get more reach than my Tektro 556 and more stopping power than 559. However, I need non-recessed versions and was sad to see they use fully threaded posts... maybe not such a big deal, but seems like one could do without stress risers in the beam that's going to flex so much (in terms of number of cycles, but also stress) and in such a critical function. |
