Allegheny-C&O Ride Assistance

Got a new DRB inbound from Ellis, more on that later, and plan to use it on this ride in October.

About 10 years ago I did this ride with my wife for our honeymoon. It was actually part of a longer tour from Pittsburgh to Williamsburg. I do recall that it was pretty easy riding, except for the muddy sections of the C&O and could probably easily be done in 3 days or so. I would like to stretch this to 5 days, leaving plenty of head space for whatever may come up.

I can't recall what towns we stopped in, what hotels we stayed at or where we ate and drank.

We are starting in Pittsburgh and will be essentially credit card touring.

What are the more interesting/happening towns for overnight stops? Hotel/B&B recommendations? The nicer the lodging, the happier my wife will be.

Nice places to eat or drink along with sights were seeing would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Cumberland, MD is cute. Gorging on crabs and beer (Crabby Pig) at the end of the day was nice. I also enjoyed Baltimore Street Grill.

Frostburg, MD was not pleasant.

I slept in a hammock so couldn't help you regarding hotel/BB.

That sounds awesome Sam. Here's a post from a fellow who did the ride last October and there is a link included for services in each town. If you want to connect with any Pacliners or well wishers when you're in Pittsburgh, let us know.

I just biked from PGH to DC in April! Spend some time on the Allegheny Trail Alliance website and definitely buy their guidebook. Feel to send me a message if you have any questions.

Sheperdstown WV (Bavarian Inn) & Harpers Ferry WV.

Maybe go up to Sharpsburg, MD (easy ride from Sheperdstown) to tour the civil war sites.
