On This Morning's Ride (Part Deux).
For those of you following along at home, my last encounter left much to be desired: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showth...ht=rob+english
On this morning's ride, as I was pedaling along, I approached a cyclist looking not much different to the rider in this picture: That image is for illustrative purposes. Before him, rode a similar looking cyclist, in a tee shirt and mtb. shorts, atop a disc-equipped matte...something. At first, I thought it was one of those Guru's posted yesterday in the classifieds but as I rode up alongside him, I noticed it was a beautifully crafted Firefly. The rear end looked the business with abrupt welds to the wishbone area and a slight layer of muck all around which screamed, "I am ridden." Remembering the collective advice of the forum, I screamed above the wind: "Wow, I love that bike!" A moment of severe dejavu took over as he slowly removed his earbud and screamed back, "What's that!?" "I love your bike!" Oh, thanks man! It looks much faster when I'm off it! "How long did it take them to make it?" 11 months. But it was SO worth it! The guy's up there are an absolute pleasure to work with. Hey this is me - nice meeting you! I ran into him at the perfect moment, just before his departure from the cycle-superhighway that is the bike path. Did he not errupt because I led with the compliment? Was it because I left out the dollars? Are Firefly owners nicer in general than English owners? Either way, I arrived at work in a good mood, irrespective of the fact that my front derailleur kept throwing my cable (freaking Rival). What a pleasant fellow. |

One point does NOT plot a curve.
You should have used the SAME approach on Mssr. Firefly that you did on Mssr. English to see if you got the same results. To minimize any potential risk, it would be acceptable to don a fireproof suit, first.

Yes
You did it correctly this time.
The key is to see if he wants to be engaged. |

I gave the English thread some thought, and figured you should have told the guy "it's not like we're talking about a firefly," when he told you "if you have to ask"...and now this!
I'm lucky to bump into the occasional original Serotta owner in my neck of the woods. |
