Wilier Build - BB questions
Please excuse my ingornace - press fit BB's are new to me:
I currently have a 2016 Wilier cento1 SR at my LBS being put together with a campy record 11. I bought the frame used and it did not come with anything in the bottom bracket, it was a bare shell. I have the campy Ultra Torque BB386 cups and the mechanic is telling me that they do not fit in the shell. So I'm assuming that wilier probably includes some sort of adaptors or cups when you buy the frame from them to adapt to campy or shimano. (Correct me if I'm wrong) I've called 2 wilier dealers in my area who were no help, but I did run across these: http://www.competitivecyclist.com/wi...racket-adapter Is anyone here familiar enough with wilier to know if that is that what I need to get this thing put together? |

The items you linked, are they both the same thing, or do I need both? What about the actual Campy Ultra Torque bb386 cups, do I need those? |

You prolly don't need the Campy 386 adapters
The adapters linked seem to be specific for Willier 386 EVO shells. They'll allow you to run SRAM (gxp- 24mm/22mm stepdown spindle), Shimano (hollowtech- 24mm spindle) or Campagnolo (Ultra Torque- 25mm spindle) cranks. There may be 3 individual kits (bottom brackets) or one kit with all the spacers, bearings and washers. In any case, it looks like the Ultra Torque 386 Cups (adapters) are not compatible with Willier frames. There may be a workaround tho as I recall a buddy having to McGyver the Campy 386 adapter on his 386 carbon Litespeed frame. It's probably all an issue of spacing and preload.
Hope the above makes sense. Last edited by beeatnik; 06-22-2016 at 08:02 PM. |

- I called 2 of my local Wilier dealers and they are absolutely no help at all. - I called two hubs and they told me that the I would need the Wilier BB386 kit they sell and that I wouldn't need the Campy ultra-torque cups. - I sent an email to Wilier USA and they told me that the ultra torque cups would press in and that's all I would need. Interestingly, they also told me that I could put a little bit of weatherproof grease around the cup before I pressed it in, which totally goes against the directions from Campy which say to use loctite. So, at this point, I still have no idea what to do. I have the Campy BB386 cups on the way, as well as the Wilier BB386 kit from competitive cyclist. Hopefully between the two of those I'll be able to get this bike built. |

Somewhat related:
A friend recently installed Campy 386 cups and UT cranks on a BMC. He installed with grease: he wanted to be able to reverse the process if necessary and I believe the USA Campy rep concurred. The whole thing went together slick.

You DO NOT need Campagnolo cups in addition to cups included in the kit, because the cups are included in the Wilier kit. However, I am not clear why ur “merchanic” couldn’t simply fit the Campagnolo cups (are u sure there isn’t anything else already installed in the BB shell?) As for using Locatite or not....this is a discussion that has evolved over the last few years of press fit BB standards. Companies like Cannondale and others have been advocating for use of Loctite 609 and primer forever and it isn't until only recently that other manufacturers (Spec, Trek, Cervelo, etc) explicitly call for use of Loctite, in addition to Campagnolo who recently revised their instructions (already referenced in above post) to include Loctite with press fit cups. If your rides consist of loops around the Burger King parking lot, then you probably will not need Loctite, however, if you plan on actually riding your bike hard then the dreaded press fit creak will surface eventually, unless you use Loctite |

as someone who is getting ready for a Wilier build, does this BB386 kit come with the frame or am i going to have to source the Campagnolo BB86 to UT BB kit?
