A Request

I figure this will get flamed or moved, but here goes:

Could folks PLEASE put the pertinent size/compatibility info for whatever you are selling in the title? I know there is only a certain number of characters, but if you can fit it in, please do.

thankyouverymuch.

...while we are at at, on a related topic, can people PLEASE not erase the price of their item after it has sold?

When I prepare to post an item for sale on the group I like to do a quick search for similar items that have been offered to gauge our groups fair market value, then I price my item in accordance with the good deals that are offered by others here.

Thanks,
Lou

I second that. Never understood why sellers feel the need to delete the price after the sale.

I've also wondered about this as well.

As Lou mentioned, being able to search and figure a fair value on similar items to what you are selling is very helpful collectively. It's also helpful when an item is listed that you're interested in buying and you're not sure where that asking price falls on the bell curve of similar items.

Beneficial on both sides of the coin.

Very Helpful Requests

I'd like to add my support to these requests -- please leave the price after something sells, and kindly make full use of the title to let folks know the size/compatibility of your item.

Both make the classified section more useful, and easier to quickly navigate.

Thanks!

I am not sure that leaving the price is such a great help. If I find that someone sold a newish Brooks Professional for 90 bucks, it means that he's a generous person. It doesn't mean that this is the "fair" price or, even less, the market price.

I've seen people come in after the item has been sold, and post things like, "Man, you could have sold this for twice as much." Now there's one good reason to delete the price.

Leaving the prices up can be very misleading as to fair market value because there may be quite a difference between asking and selling prices. Then we have to consider the motivation of the buyer and the seller. A guy desperate for that last part of alloy Record to complete the build of his custom dream bike might pay almost anything for a right hand Ergo while someone trying to put together an economical build for his daily commuter would see the value as a lot less.

Then on this site we often see members trying to do a good turn for an on-line pal offering really low prices. Another member who is trying to upgrade his bike but needs to get his idea of FMV in order to afford the new stuff doesn't want to hear from potential buyers that " Mr. Generous sold a similar item 3 months ago for 1/2 what you are asking".

It may even help if we try and stick to a simple standard:

FS: colnago master frameset (58)
WTB: lightweight wheelset (s)
FS: fulcrum 5cx wheelset (c)
FS: wound up fork (1.125)
WTB: Thomson elite (27.2)
FS: record ut crankset (175) (53/39)
FS: ultegra 6800 cassette (12-25)

I'm not saying this is it, but an idea.

The only reason I've deleted a price was not to confuse folks thinking it was still available. I'll leave it for future reference, don't understand why anyone should be against it. Hint for sellers, the lower the price the faster it sells.

I think that in some cases (not all) it's because folks have a tendency to be secretive about money.

Ebay completed listings. Best gauge of market price, imo.
